What a reclaimed headboard really is

Timber with a past — recovered, not harvested, then rebuilt into the hero of the bedroom.

A reclaimed wood headboard is cut from salvaged old hardwood — teak, sheesham and mixed tropical species recovered from dismantled buildings, doors, beams, railway stock and boats across India. That timber was felled decades ago, slow-grown and air-dried for years, so it is denser and more dimensionally stable than new stock. We clean, de-nail, kiln or heat-treat and re-mill it, then build it into a panel that keeps its original grain, colour shifts, filled knot holes and tool marks. The result is a headboard that looks aged because it genuinely is — the single most requested look in reclaimed and industrial bedroom ranges.

Why buyers choose reclaimed wood

The character is the product — and the sustainability story sells it.

Authentic patina

Genuine age, grain and surface history that factory-distressed new wood cannot copy. Every panel is one of a kind, which end customers pay a premium for and reviewers notice.

Stable, dense timber

Decades-old hardwood that has already done its moving. Re-seasoned and heat-treated, it resists the warping and splitting that catch out headboards made from fresh-sawn stock.

A real green claim

Salvaged timber keeps old wood out of landfill and avoids new felling — a deforestation-free story you can put on the swing tag, backed by documented chain-of-custody rather than marketing.

Suits the ranges that sell

The natural fit for industrial, farmhouse, rustic, coastal and boho bedroom collections — and a strong anchor piece in a mixed reclaimed container.

Pairs with iron and cane

Reclaimed panels combine beautifully with hand-forged wrought iron frames or woven cane inserts for designs that carry a whole collection's identity.

Freight-friendly

Most designs ship flat-pack or knockdown, so you load more headboards per container and lose fewer to transit damage.

The material deserves a fuller explanation than a product page allows. See our full reclaimed wood furniture capability for sourcing, treatment and the sustainability case, or weigh the trade-offs in reclaimed versus new wood for furniture buyers.

Compliance & care

Low-risk timber, documented — and finishes your market accepts.

The easiest timber to clear at the border

Because it is salvaged rather than freshly harvested, reclaimed wood is the lowest-risk material for timber-legality regimes. We still document chain-of-custody and keep handling EUDR-ready with deforestation-free due diligence, add FSC chain-of-custody where applicable, support US Lacey Act declarations and UK Timber Regulation, and handle any Dalbergia sissoo (sheesham) content to CITES. Finishes meet CARB / TSCA Title VI, packing is ISPM-15 heat-treated, and ISO, SGS and SEDEX / SMETA cover quality and social audit. Certificate numbers go to serious buyers directly.

Care that protects the patina — and your reviews

Reclaimed headboards are dusted with a dry or lightly damp cloth, kept out of direct heat and strong sun, and refreshed with a wood-friendly wax or oil on natural finishes. The aged surface is meant to show character, so minor marks blend in rather than stand out. Cane inserts prefer stable humidity. We supply care guidance with every order so your end customers keep the finish looking right for years.

Common buyer questions

Reclaimed headboard sourcing, answered.

What wood are your reclaimed headboards made from?

They are built from salvaged old timber — reclaimed teak, sheesham and other hardwoods recovered from old buildings, doors, beams and boats. Because the wood is dense, slow-grown and already seasoned, each panel carries a genuine patina, saw marks, old nail holes and colour variation that cannot be faked with a factory finish. No two headboards are identical, which is the point.

What bed sizes do you make reclaimed wood headboards for?

We build to any market's bed standard. For US buyers that means Twin, Full/Double, Queen, King and California King; we also produce UK and European sizes and fully custom widths and heights to your drawing. Freestanding, wall-mounted and bed-frame-integrated fixings are all available.

Is reclaimed wood a problem for EUDR, Lacey or CITES?

Reclaimed and salvaged timber is the lowest-risk material for timber-legality regimes because it is recovered rather than freshly harvested. We still document chain-of-custody and keep our handling EUDR-ready, with US Lacey Act declaration support, UK Timber Regulation cover and CITES-compliant handling of any Dalbergia content. Finishes are CARB/TSCA Title VI compliant and packing is ISPM-15 heat-treated.

Can reclaimed wood headboards ship flat-pack?

Yes. Most reclaimed headboard designs ship knockdown or flat-pack, which lowers freight cost and breakage risk and maximises container density — ideal for large importers and online sellers. Heavier solid-slab panels can also ship assembled where the design requires it.

What is the minimum order and lead time?

A sample or trial order can ship LCL (part-container) so you can approve the timber character, finish and build first. For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum, and we consolidate headboards with reclaimed beds, nightstands and dressers into one mixed container. Lead time is typically 30–45 days.

Will the headboards look consistent across a container order?

Reclaimed wood is intentionally varied, but we control that variation to an agreed range — tone, plank width, distress level and hardware — so a production run reads as one coherent collection rather than random offcuts. We approve a signed sample with you first and QC every piece against it.
