How to import furniture from India — the complete buyer's playbook.
Importing solid-wood furniture from India is straightforward once you know the sequence: sample, confirm, produce, inspect, pack and ship. This is the exact process we run with importers, retailers and hospitality buyers across the USA, Europe and Australia — from a first trial order to repeat container volumes.
Why buyers source furniture from India — and Jodhpur specifically.
Jodhpur, Rajasthan is the recognized global hub for solid-wood and handcrafted furniture exports. Buyers diversifying away from a single-country supply chain come here for genuine solid wood — sheesham, mango, acacia, teak and reclaimed wood — at a competitive, cost-advantaged price, backed by the compliance paperwork that clears customs in the US and EU. The question is not whether to import, but how to run the process cleanly. The eight steps below do exactly that.
Eight steps to import furniture from India.
Define your range & specification
Decide the categories and SKUs you want — dining, bedroom, living, wood-and-iron, décor or a mixed load. Share your catalogue, drawings or a reference image. Tell us wood species, finish, dimensions and target quantities. The clearer the brief, the tighter the quote.
Request a quote on FOB or CIF
We quote against your specification with MOQs, lead times and your chosen Incoterms — FOB from the Indian load port, or CIF to your destination port. Pricing is competitive and RFQ-based; no numbers are published, so every quote is current to your exact order.
Order a sample and approve it
Before committing to a container, request a sample. It ships LCL so you can inspect wood, finish, joinery and build in person. Your approved sample becomes the physical QC benchmark for the production run — no ambiguity later.
Confirm the order & terms
Lock the final specification, quantity, Incoterm and timeline. A trial order can ship LCL; for best pricing thereafter, one 20ft FCL is the standard minimum. Mixed-category containers consolidate furniture, metalware and décor into a single compliant shipment.
Production & quality control
Your order is made across our own factory and vetted Jodhpur manufacturing network over a typical 30–45 day lead time, with QC on every piece against the approved sample. Urgent orders can be expedited at a premium. Factory visits are welcome on prior intimation.
Compliance documentation
We assemble your timber-legality and sustainability paperwork — FSC chain-of-custody, Vriksh verification and EUDR-ready geolocation — plus Lacey Act, UKTR, CARB / TSCA and ISPM-15 evidence as your market requires. This is prepared alongside production, not after.
Export packing & loading
Goods are packed to survive the ocean — corner protection, moisture barriers and ISPM-15 heat-treated timber packaging. Flat-pack / knockdown construction maximizes container density and cuts breakage, lowering your landed cost per unit.
Ship, clear & receive
Your container sails from Mundra or Nhava Sheva. On CIF we cover freight and insurance to your port; on FOB your forwarder takes over at load. With documents prepared upfront, customs clearance at your end is a non-event.
Import terms, answered before you ask.
The commercial questions buyers raise first — minimums, timing, Incoterms, shipping and packaging — set out in one place. These are our real, standing terms, not estimates. For a line quoted to your specific range, request a quote.

Importing solid wood? The paperwork matters more than the price.
Furniture made from real timber is regulated at the border. A container clears quickly — or sits at the port — depending on its legality documentation. We build that documentation around your destination market so clearance is routine.

Private-label manufacturingImporting furniture from India — FAQs.
What is the minimum order to import furniture from India?
A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container) so you can test the product before committing. For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load (FCL) is the standard minimum. Mixed-category containers — furniture, décor and metalware together — are supported.
How long does it take to receive a container of furniture from India?
Typical production lead time is 30–45 days after sample approval and order confirmation, plus ocean transit from Mundra or Nhava Sheva to your port. Urgent orders can be expedited at a premium. Transit time depends on your destination and sailing schedule.
Which Incoterms do you ship on — FOB or CIF?
We quote on both FOB and CIF (Incoterms). FOB hands over at the Indian load port and suits buyers with their own freight forwarder; CIF includes ocean freight and insurance to your named destination port. Flat-pack construction maximizes container density and lowers your landed cost either way.
What documents and compliance do I need to import furniture from India into the US or EU?
For solid-wood furniture you need timber-legality and sustainability documentation. We provide FSC chain-of-custody, Vriksh timber-legality verification and EUDR-ready geolocation due diligence, plus US Lacey Act declaration support, UK Timber Regulation evidence, CARB / TSCA-compliant finishes and ISPM-15 heat-treated export packaging. Certificate numbers are shared directly with serious buyers.
Can I import custom or private-label furniture, not just catalogue items?
Yes. We work as both ODM (our ready catalogue designs) and OEM (made to your drawings, finishes, dimensions and private-label branding), including custom CNC carving, bespoke prototyping and retail-ready, Amazon-FBA-ready or branded packaging.
How do samples work before I place a full container order?
Request a sample and we produce it so you can approve wood species, finish, joinery and build quality first-hand. Samples ship LCL. Once approved, that exact specification becomes the QC benchmark for your production run.
