A Jodhpur signature

The wood-and-iron pairing that put Jodhpur on export shelves.

Jodhpur is India's hub for solid-wood and iron furniture, and the forged-iron base under a mango-wood or reclaimed-timber top is the piece buyers associate with the city. Wrought iron is low-carbon iron worked hot — hammered, drawn, bent and welded by hand — so each frame carries the slight irregularity and density of real forging, not the hollow lightness of tube steel. We combine that metalwork with timber that has a genuine solid-wood component, giving you the industrial aesthetic with the warmth, strength and repair-ability your retail and hospitality customers expect.

Material properties

What wrought iron is, and why it holds up in service.

Wrought iron behaves differently from cast iron and from mild tube steel. It is tough and malleable rather than brittle, which is why it can be shaped into scrollwork and still take years of commercial handling. The table below summarises the attributes buyers and specifiers ask about most.

AttributeWrought iron (as we supply it)
CompositionLow-carbon iron, hot-worked by hand; near-zero porosity in the forged section
Strength & behaviourHigh tensile strength; malleable and tough — bends and resists impact rather than cracking like cast iron
WeightDense and heavy — delivers stability underfoot; we offset freight cost with flat-pack engineering
DurabilityCommercial-grade; frames outlast upholstery and fashion cycles, ideal for contract and hospitality use
CorrosionRusts if left bare and wet; controlled with phosphate / zinc-rich primer plus powder coat, lacquer or wax
AppearanceHand-forged texture, hammer marks and scrolls; no wood-style grain — character comes from the forging and finish
FinishesMatte / satin / gloss powder coat, antique black, bronze or rust patina, raw sealed, distressed
PairingSolid-wood, reclaimed-wood, marble or stone tops and shelves — the wood-and-iron combination we build around
RepairabilityRe-weldable and re-coatable; chips touch up on site, unlike moulded or veneered alternatives
SustainabilityIron is fully recyclable; paired with FSC and reclaimed timber for a lower-footprint, deforestation-free build
Finishes

From baked powder coat to raw-industrial patina.

Powder coat

Electrostatically applied and oven-baked over a zinc-rich primer for the hardest, most even surface. Matte, satin or gloss in your choice of colour — the specification for high-traffic contract and outdoor-covered use.

Antique & patina

Hand-applied antique black, aged bronze or controlled rust patina for vintage, farmhouse and loft ranges, sealed to lock the look. Each piece reads as individually forged rather than mass-finished.

Raw sealed & distressed

Bare forged steel degreased and sealed with lacquer or wax to hold the true industrial character, with distressing and hammer texture to order. Timber tops finished to CARB / TSCA Title VI formaldehyde norms.

What we build in wrought iron

A full wood-and-iron range for retail, hospitality and projects.

Beyond these core lines we forge décor and accessories — planters and plant stands, lanterns and candle holders, mirror frames, wall brackets, hooks and bar accessories — so a single order can mix high-value furniture with the lighter, container-filling pieces that round out a range. Browse the full solid-wood and iron furniture range or ask us to quote a mixed assortment.

How it compares

Wrought iron versus the alternatives.

Choosing the right metal is a trade-off between weight, strength, finish and freight. Here is how forged wrought iron stacks up against the materials it usually competes with on a buyer's sourcing sheet.

MaterialStrengthsTrade-offs
Wrought ironHand-forged character, high strength, re-weldable, recyclable, true industrial lookHeavy; needs correct priming and finish to resist rust
Cast ironFine detail in moulded shapes, very rigidBrittle — can crack on impact; heavier still; not shaped by hand
Mild / tube steelLight, low cost, fast to fabricateHollow feel, less stable, lacks forged texture and premium hand
AluminiumLight and naturally rust-resistant for outdoorsSofter, dents easily, reads as lightweight rather than solid
Stainless steelCorrosion-resistant, clean modern lookCostly, contemporary not rustic, no hand-forged character

For most farmhouse, industrial, loft and vintage ranges the wood-and-iron pairing wins on perceived value and durability. Where a lighter all-weather piece is needed we will say so and specify accordingly.

Care & service life

Looking after wrought iron furniture.

Finished correctly, wrought iron needs little maintenance and lasts through commercial service. A few simple measures keep it looking its best:

  • Dust with a dry or barely-damp cloth; avoid abrasive pads that scratch the coat.
  • Wipe spills promptly and keep pieces dry, especially where the coat meets the floor.
  • Inspect chips and scratches; touch up bare spots before rust can start.
  • For covered-outdoor use, move pieces under cover in prolonged wet or freezing weather.
  • Care for the wood top on its own schedule — oil or wax as the finish requires.

We supply matching touch-up finish and written care and finish specifications with every order, so your team and your customers know exactly how each piece was built and how to keep it.

The wood in every iron piece is documented and import-ready.

Wrought iron itself carries no timber-legality burden, but the solid and reclaimed wood we pair it with does — and that is where most buyers get caught at the port. Our wood-and-iron pieces ship with FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh timber-legality behind the timber, EUDR-ready geolocated due diligence, and Lacey Act, UK Timber Regulation and CARB / TSCA finish compliance covered. Metal fabrication is inspected by SGS with in-house QC on every piece, and packaging is ISPM-15 heat-treated.

Wrought iron furniture — FAQs

What buyers ask before they order.

What is wrought iron furniture?

Wrought iron furniture is made from low-carbon iron that is heated and hand-worked — hammered, bent and welded — into frames, legs and decorative scrollwork. In our range it is almost always paired with a solid-wood top or shelf: mango, acacia, sheesham or reclaimed timber on a forged-iron base. The result is the industrial and rustic look buyers know from loft, farmhouse and vintage ranges, with the strength of steel and the warmth of real wood.

Is wrought iron good for outdoor furniture?

Wrought iron is well suited to covered patios, verandas and conservatories because of its weight and rigidity. For outdoor use we specify a zinc-rich primer under a UV-stable powder coat to resist rust, and we recommend a solid-wood or stone top rather than a timber that moves in weather. For fully exposed coastal sites we will advise on finish and pairing so pieces hold up in service.

How do you stop wrought iron furniture from rusting?

Rust control begins at the factory: bare steel is cleaned and degreased, given a phosphate or zinc-rich primer, then sealed with either a baked powder coat or a hand-applied wax/lacquer for the raw-industrial look. In use, keep pieces dry, wipe spills promptly and touch up any chips. We can supply matching touch-up finish and full finish specifications with each order.

Can you make wrought iron furniture to our own designs?

Yes. We are both ODM and OEM — build from our catalogue, or send drawings, a reference photo or a physical sample and we forge to your specification. Custom CNC and metal fabrication, bespoke dimensions, your choice of wood, finish and powder-coat colour, plus private-label and retail-ready packaging are all standard.

What is the minimum order for wrought iron furniture?

A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container) so you can approve the forging, finish and wood before committing. For best wholesale pricing thereafter our standard minimum is one 20ft full container load, and we consolidate wrought iron with solid-wood furniture, metalware and décor into a single mixed container.

Is wrought iron furniture heavy to ship?

Wrought iron is dense, so freight matters. We engineer most pieces as knockdown or flat-pack — removable wood tops and bolt-together frames — which lowers breakage and maximises container density. We quote FOB or CIF from Mundra or Nhava Sheva and advise on the most cost-efficient pack for your lane.
