Vriksh certified timber legality — proof your wood is legal, before you order.
Vriksh is the independent timber-legality verification for Indian wood. It is how a serious importer knows the sheesham, mango or acacia in your container was sourced and processed legally — documented, traceable and ready for your own due-diligence file.
A third-party legality check on the wood, not a marketing badge.
Vriksh is the Timber Legality Assessment and Verification scheme operated by EPCH, the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts in India. It exists to answer one question that every modern importer must be able to answer about their own stock: can you prove this wood was obtained legally? Vriksh verifies that the timber in a product was legally sourced, harvested and processed, and traces it back through the chain of custody to its origin.
Legal origin
The timber is confirmed to be legally harvested and sourced under Indian law — no illegal logging, no undocumented supply.
Traceability
Species and origin are recorded through the supply chain, so a given lot can be tied back to where the wood came from.
Independent verification
The assessment is run under an EPCH scheme, not self-declared. That independence is exactly what your own regulators want to see.
The burden of proof has shifted to the importer.
Across the markets we ship to, the law no longer asks only the exporter to behave legally — it asks you, the importer, to prove the wood you placed on the market was legal. That is the heart of the US Lacey Act, the UK Timber Regulation, and the EU Deforestation Regulation. Vriksh is how we hand you the evidence to meet that obligation.
United States — Lacey Act
Requires a declaration of species and country of harvest, and prohibits trade in illegally sourced wood. Our Vriksh legality and species records back your declaration.
United Kingdom — UKTR
Obliges operators to exercise due diligence against illegal timber. Verified legality documentation makes that diligence straightforward to evidence.
European Union — EUDR
Demands deforestation-free, legally produced wood with geolocation and traceability. Vriksh legality sits alongside our EUDR-ready due diligence and FSC chain-of-custody.
Most exporters in our cluster still sell on relationships alone and cannot produce this paperwork. For an importer, retailer or hospitality buyer, that is a risk you carry. We remove it — the legality file travels with the container.
Requirement, and the standard we hold against it.
Vriksh does not stand alone. We pair it with FSC chain-of-custody, CITES-compliant handling of sheesham, and market-readiness for the regulations your customs authority applies. Here is what that means line by line.
| Requirement | Our standard |
|---|---|
| Timber legality | Vriksh verified (EPCH Timber Legality Assessment & Verification) |
| Protected species | CITES-compliant handling of Dalbergia sissoo (sheesham) |
| Chain of custody | FSC chain-of-custody · reclaimed / old-wood lines |
| EU market | EUDR-ready · geolocation · deforestation-free due diligence |
| US market | Lacey Act declaration support · species & origin records |
| UK market | UK Timber Regulation (UKTR) due-diligence documentation |
| Documentation | Certificate references shared 1:1 with qualified buyers |
Where Vriksh pays off is at your border, not ours.
A due-diligence file that is already built
Every container ships with the legality, species and origin records that sit behind a Lacey, UKTR or EUDR declaration. You are not chasing an exporter after the fact for a document a regulator has asked for — it is in your hands before the goods leave India.
Fewer questions, stronger defence
Clean, traceable documentation means fewer holds and queries at customs. If you are ever audited, a verified legality record is a far stronger position than a supplier's word. Unverified containers are the ones that sit at the port.
Sheesham you can actually sell
Indian rosewood is a signature of Jodhpur furniture and a CITES-listed species. We handle it compliantly and identify it correctly, so your sheesham range moves across borders instead of being flagged.
Numbers on request, never published
We provide live certificate references and copies directly to serious buyers during qualification. We keep them off the public site to prevent misuse — but anything you need for your own compliance file, you get.
Vriksh, FSC and timber legality — answered.
What is Vriksh certification?
Vriksh is the Timber Legality Assessment and Verification scheme run by EPCH, the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts in India. It independently verifies that the wood in a product was sourced, harvested and processed legally, and traces it back through the supply chain. For importers it is documented proof that the timber in your furniture is legal under Indian law.
Why do buyers ask for Vriksh when importing Indian wood furniture?
Because major markets now require legally harvested timber. The US Lacey Act, UK Timber Regulation and the EU Deforestation Regulation all put the burden of proof on the importer. A Vriksh verification gives you a recognised, third-party legality record for Indian timber, which makes your own due diligence file faster to build and easier to defend.
Is sheesham (Indian rosewood) legal to export, given CITES?
Yes, when handled correctly. Sheesham is Dalbergia sissoo and is listed under CITES. We handle it CITES-compliant, with the species identified and the documentation that lets it move legally across borders. Vriksh legality verification and CITES-compliant handling work together to keep your sheesham shipments clean.
How is Vriksh different from FSC?
They answer different questions. FSC chain-of-custody shows the wood came from responsibly managed forests and tracks it through our production. Vriksh verifies legality of the timber under Indian law and traces its origin. We hold both, so your shipment carries legality and sustainability evidence together.
Do you give buyers the actual Vriksh and FSC certificate numbers?
Yes, directly. We share live certificate references and copies one-to-one with serious buyers during qualification. We do not publish certificate numbers on the website to prevent misuse, but any verifiable detail you need for your own compliance file is provided on request.
Does Vriksh verification help my shipment clear customs faster?
It helps your due diligence, which is where delays happen. Clean, traceable legality documentation means fewer questions at the border and a stronger file if you are audited. We supply the legality, species and origin records that sit behind a Lacey, UKTR or EUDR declaration, so your container moves while unverified ones wait.
