Why resin for a floating shelf

The smallest resin piece with the biggest shelf appeal.

A floating shelf is bought for the way it looks on an empty wall, and resin turns a plain plank into a feature. A clear or tinted epoxy river running the length of a live-edge board reads as "water in wood" from across the room, and because each board's grain and edge are unique, no two shelves are identical — exactly why a resin floating shelf photographs so well and carries a boutique price online and in store. It is also the easiest way into the resin look at an impulse price point: far less epoxy than a table, so it ships light and lands at a margin that resells fast. And the cured surface is non-porous and waterproof, which makes it one of the few shelves genuinely at home above a bathroom vanity, behind a bar or in a kitchen. Every piece is built on a solid-wood core — we never sell resin-only boards or filled-panel substitutes.

How it compares

A resin floating shelf versus the alternatives.

A shelf is specified for how it looks on the wall and how it survives what sits on it. Here is how a resin-and-wood board sits against the shelves buyers weigh it against — so you choose the right look for your margin and market.

Sourcing & compliance

The resin is modern. The wood is fully documented.

A resin floating shelf is only as import-ready as the timber inside it, and ours is on paper. The solid wood in every board carries FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh timber-legality documentation, with CITES-compliant handling of sheesham. We are EUDR-ready — geolocated and deforestation-free — and we support US Lacey Act declarations, UK Timber Regulation and CARB / TSCA Title VI formaldehyde-compliant finishes, with SEDEX / SMETA audited craft and ISPM-15 export packing. Certificate references go directly to serious buyers — never published. Your resin shelves clear customs like any other compliant load.

Care & durability

A low-maintenance board — treated right, it stays showroom-fresh.

A cured resin top is low-maintenance by design, which is part of why it suits a hard-working shelf — and a little care keeps it that way for the life of the piece. Day to day, wipe with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap; avoid abrasive pads and harsh solvents that can dull the sealed surface. Keep the shelf out of prolonged direct sunlight to preserve a clear river's clarity over the years, and because the surface is sealed it never needs re-oiling — unlike a plain wood board. Light scuffs buff out with a fine polish. The timber is kiln-dried before pouring so the board stays flat and true, and the concealed rod anchors into the solid-wood core rather than the resin, so the fixing stays sound under daily load. We supply care and fitting guidance with every shipment so your retail or hospitality customers give consistent advice, and we can print it on branded care cards for your range.

Questions buyers ask

Resin floating shelf sourcing, answered.

What is a resin floating shelf?

A resin floating shelf is a solid-wood board finished with a cured furniture-grade epoxy — joined to a concealed wall bracket so it appears to float. Clear or tinted resin is poured as a river down the board, filled along a live edge, or cast over the surface, then levelled and polished to a glassy, waterproof finish. The wood carries the structure and the hidden mounting rod; the resin gives colour, depth and a hard, non-porous top. We build resin floating shelves as wood-and-resin pieces — never as resin alone.

How do resin floating shelves mount to the wall?

With concealed, floating brackets. A steel rod or blind cleat is set into the solid-wood section of the board — the resin is poured around a timber core precisely so there is wood to drill and anchor into — giving a clean, bracket-free wall line. Hardware, wall plugs and fitting instructions are packed in, and we match the fixing and stated load to your market's expectations. Exposed wrought-iron pipe and L-bracket styles are available where an industrial look is wanted.

Are resin floating shelves waterproof and suitable for bathrooms?

Yes. A fully cured epoxy surface is hard, non-porous and water-resistant, so a resin floating shelf wipes clean and shrugs off the splashes a bathroom, kitchen or bar-back shelf lives with — a genuine advantage over an oiled plain-wood board. We seal the timber edges and underside for humid settings and can specify a moisture-ready build for vanity and wet-area shelving.

Can you make resin floating shelves in custom sizes, colours and wood species?

Yes. A floating shelf is one of the easiest pieces to build a private-label range around because every variable is yours. You choose the wood — sheesham, acacia, mango or reclaimed wood — the length, depth and thickness, the edge profile, the resin tint (clear, smoked, oceanic blue, black, metallic or a custom colour) and the bracket type. As an ODM and OEM maker we produce our catalogue designs or manufacture to your drawings, with a sample approved before bulk.

What sizes do resin floating shelves come in?

Lengths typically run 300–900 mm (12–35 in), depths 150–250 mm (6–10 in) and board thickness 25–45 mm — slightly thicker than a plain shelf to carry the resin pour and the concealed rod. Corner units, picture ledges and graduated sets of three are available, and we manufacture to your exact dimensions and load rating for container and private-label programmes.

What is the minimum order and lead time for resin floating shelves?

A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container) so you can approve the wood, resin colour and mounting first. For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum, and resin shelves consolidate well with resin tables and other furniture in a mixed container. Typical lead time is 30–45 days, which includes the cure that resin requires; urgent orders are accepted at a premium.

Start with a sample

See the river in the board before you commit a container.

Send a reference image, a drawing or a mood board with your wood and resin colour. We prototype, you approve the craft on an LCL sample, then we scale to full container volumes on a 30–45 day lead time — QC-governed and documented per shipment.
