What makes an armchair "industrial"

Arms you can settle into, a frame that reads like a workshop.

The industrial armchair is a lounge seat with presence: a deep, lower seat and real arms carried on a frame of solid wood and wrought iron, usually dressed in aged leather or heavy canvas. Where the accent chair is a light occasional seat, the armchair is the piece people sink into — a reading corner, a hotel lobby, a brewery lounge, an executive office. We build it as a genuine solid-wood product on a welded metal base, not a particleboard shell, so it carries weight, survives commercial use and reads as craft on the floor.

The three materials, and why they work

Wood for warmth, iron for the line, leather for the lounge.

The wood

Arms, legs and frames are cut from solid sheesham (Indian rosewood), mango, acacia or reclaimed/old wood — dense hardwoods that take a knock, hold a finish and bring real grain to a hard, metallic piece. Reclaimed wood is the signature industrial choice: saw marks, visible history and colour variation, with a deforestation-free, FSC-aligned story your buyers can sell.

The iron

Bases and supports are hand-welded from wrought iron — flat bar, square or round tube — then de-scaled, primed and powder-coated for a hard, even, rust-resistant surface. The steel does the structural work, so the armchair stays rigid under daily lounge use, and the frame bolts apart, which is exactly what lets it ship flat.

The leather & upholstery

Seats and backs can be genuine buffalo or cowhide leather — tan, cognac, distressed brown, vintage black — or heavy canvas, cotton and linen-weave fabric in your colourway. Aged leather is what gives the industrial armchair its lived-in, gentleman's-club warmth against the cold steel and bare wood.

Specifications & sizing

Indicative specs — every dimension, leather and finish is made to your order.

Figures below are typical ranges for reference. We manufacture to your exact drawings and market requirements, so seat height, seat depth, frame gauge, wood species, leather grade and finish are all specified at the quote stage. Lot and finish traceability is documented where applicable.

Where it sells

One armchair, every room with an industrial edge.

Hotels, lobbies & lounges

Leather-and-steel lounge seating built and QC-checked for commercial wear — the anchor of the industrial-hospitality look. Armchairs for hospitality & contract.

Bars, breweries & lofts

A statement seat for exposed-brick venues and open-plan apartments — high-margin, easy to merchandise, and sized to sit under a window or beside a fireplace.

Offices & reading corners

The honest-material armchair that pairs with a reclaimed-wood desk in an executive office or a home-office nook and holds up to daily use.

Freight & assembly

Built to ship flat.

Because the iron base bolts to the wood arms and the cushions pack separately, the industrial armchair is a natural knock-down (RTA) product — stacking more units per container, cutting breakage in transit and lowering landed cost per chair for large importers and online sellers. Assembled and part-assembled builds are available where a design or buyer prefers them. How our flat-pack and knock-down shipping works.

Care & longevity

Keeps selling for years.

Solid wood moves with climate; a stable indoor environment and a soft dry wipe keep arms and frames sound, while occasional wood wax protects the finish. Leather benefits from a periodic conditioner to hold its patina; the powder-coated iron base needs only a dry wipe. We finish wood with CARB/TSCA-compliant lacquers chosen for commercial wear and share care guidance with every order.

The compliance edge

Paperwork your customs broker will thank you for.

Our wood-iron-and-leather armchairs ship with FSC chain-of-custody, Vriksh timber-legality and CITES-compliant handling of sheesham, backed by ISO, SGS and SEDEX/SMETA audits. We are EUDR-ready with geolocation and deforestation-free due diligence, and we support US Lacey Act declarations, UK Timber Regulation, CARB/TSCA finishes and ISPM-15 export packing — so your seating clears the port instead of sitting in it.

Questions buyers ask

Industrial armchairs — wholesale & export FAQ

What is an industrial armchair made of?

An industrial armchair combines a solid-wood frame or arms — sheesham, mango, acacia or reclaimed/old wood — with powder-coated wrought iron and, usually, a leather or fabric seat. The look is honest material: visible bolts, flat-bar or tubular steel, aged timber and a worn-leather or canvas seat. Every piece carries at least one solid-wood component; we do not supply plywood-only or panel seating.

What is the difference between an industrial armchair and an industrial accent chair?

An armchair has arms and a deeper, lower lounge seat built for extended sitting — reading corners, lobbies, breakout lounges and bars — and is often leather-upholstered. An accent chair is a lighter occasional seat. Both share the wood-and-iron industrial language, and we manufacture both; the armchair is the bigger, more cushioned lounge piece.

Can industrial armchairs ship knock-down to save on freight?

Yes. Because the wrought-iron base and solid-wood arms bolt together and cushions pack separately, most of our industrial armchairs ship knock-down (RTA) — the biggest lever for container density, lower breakage and cheaper landed cost. Fully assembled and part-assembled builds are available where a design or buyer prefers them.

What leather and upholstery options are available?

Seats and backs can be genuine buffalo or cowhide leather — tan, cognac, distressed brown, vintage black — or canvas, cotton and linen-weave fabric in your colourway. Wood is natural, stained, walnut, honey or distressed; iron is powder-coated matt black, antique bronze, gunmetal or raw sealed. All wood finishes are CARB/TSCA formaldehyde-compliant, and every material is confirmed at the quote stage.

Are industrial armchairs strong enough for hotel and bar use?

Yes. The welded steel base and solid-wood arms make the industrial armchair a natural contract piece for hotel lobbies, lounges, bars, breweries and co-working floors. We QC-check every chair, specify frame gauge to your load needs, and build to your market's commercial-use expectations.

What is the minimum order and lead time for industrial armchairs?

A trial or sample order can ship LCL so you approve wood, leather, finish and build first. For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum, and we consolidate with other furniture, metalware and décor into a mixed container. Typical production is 30–45 days after sample approval; urgent orders at a premium.

Can you make industrial armchairs to our own design or brand?

Yes — we work as both ODM (our catalogue designs) and OEM, manufacturing to your drawings, dimensions, frame profile, leather and finish, with private-label branding and retail-ready or Amazon-FBA packaging. Send a reference image or spec and we prototype to it.
