What a rustic trunk is

A storage box that looks like it has already travelled the world.

Rustic is a look, not a single wood. A rustic trunk is built to read as aged, weathered and collected — the opposite of a glossy new box. We get there honestly: reclaimed old wood with its own saw marks and patina, or solid sheesham, mango and acacia hand-finished to a distressed, time-worn surface, then bound in wrought-iron straps and corner brackets with antique-effect lock plates and leather carry handles. Nothing is printed or veneered. That authenticity is exactly the quality cue farmhouse, industrial, vintage and boho ranges are built on, and it is what lets a trunk double as closed storage and a characterful coffee-table or end-of-bed surface.

Hospitality

Luggage-bench and room trunks that carry a boutique-hotel story under commercial use.

The material & the finish

Where the rustic character actually comes from.

A convincing rustic trunk earns its look from the wood and the hand-finishing, not from a quick wash of stain. Here is how we build each layer, and why it holds up under shipping, retail handling and hotel turnover.

Reclaimed old wood

Timber given a second life, carrying genuine weathered grain, old nail holes and patina. It is the vintage hero line and is inherently deforestation-free — our most sought-after rustic look.

Solid sheesham, mango & acacia

Dense, close-grained hardwoods, kiln-dried to export moisture levels, then distressed and aged by hand so the rustic surface is real wear on real wood rather than a surface print.

Iron & aged hardware

Wrought-iron strapping, corner brackets and antique-effect lock plates, with optional leather handles — the industrial and campaign details that complete the travelled, collected character.

Because reclaimed grain, distressing and hand-aging make every piece slightly individual, no two rustic trunks are identical — and that variation is the authenticity buyers pay for, not a fault. We control it to an approved sample and QC every unit, so the look stays within an agreed range. Explore the two routes in depth on our reclaimed-wood furniture material page and our solid sheesham material page.

Custom, OEM & private label

Your rustic look, your brand, your packaging.

We build from our own catalogue (ODM) and to your drawings (OEM) — custom sizes, linings, hinges, locks, branded hardware and a signed-off distressing level, finished with retail-ready, Amazon-FBA-ready or gift packaging. Custom CNC and hand work let us match a reference piece or develop a signature rustic line for your range. Match the trunk to a wider farmhouse or vintage collection and we consolidate it into one mixed container.

Care & durability

Aged on purpose, built to last.

Rustic trunks are solid wood, kiln-dried to export moisture levels and sealed with a protective coating under the distressed look, so the character is stable rather than flaking. Advise your customers to keep trunks out of direct heat and damp, wipe with a dry or lightly oiled cloth, and refresh natural-oil finishes occasionally. Iron and brass fittings need only a dry wipe. For shipment, every trunk is ISPM-15 heat-treated-packed and corner-protected; flat-pack options cut breakage further.

The compliance edge

Reclaimed and sheesham — the exact timbers import rules scrutinise.

Rustic trunks lean on reclaimed old wood and sheesham, which are precisely the materials EU and US customs look hardest at. We document the chain before you ask — so your container clears while others wait at the port. It is the trust wedge most Jodhpur exporters simply do not carry.

Rustic trunk FAQs

What buyers ask before they order.

What makes a trunk "rustic", and how do you achieve the look?

A rustic trunk reads as aged, weathered and collected rather than new. We build it from reclaimed old wood or solid sheesham, mango and acacia, then layer the look through naturally weathered grain, a hand-applied distressed and aged finish, wrought-iron strapping and corner brackets, antique-effect lock plates and leather handles. The result is an authentic travelled character, not a printed or veneered imitation.

Are rustic trunks made from reclaimed wood, and is that sustainable?

Many are. Our hero rustic line uses reclaimed old wood — timber given a second life — which carries genuine saw marks, nail holes and patina and is inherently deforestation-free. We also build rustic trunks in solid sheesham, mango and acacia finished to a distressed look. Both routes are documented under FSC chain-of-custody, Vriksh timber-legality and EUDR due diligence.

What sizes do rustic trunks come in, and can you make custom dimensions?

Common export sizes run from hall trunks around 60–90 cm long to coffee-table and blanket-box trunks of 100–120 cm, plus graduated nesting sets of two or three. Every dimension, wood, lining and fitting is made to order, so we also build to your drawings as OEM — tell us the footprint and interior you need and we quote the build.

What is the minimum order for rustic trunks?

A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container) so you can approve the aged finish and build in person. For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum. Because rustic finishes vary piece to piece by design, approving a sample first is the norm.

Will two rustic trunks look identical?

No — and that is the point. Reclaimed grain, distressing and hand-aged finishing make each piece slightly individual, which is the authentic cue retail and hospitality buyers want. We control the look to an approved sample and QC every unit, so the variation stays within an agreed range rather than reading as a defect.

Are rustic trunks compliant for import into the US and EU?

Yes. We document FSC chain-of-custody, Vriksh timber-legality and CITES-compliant handling of sheesham, with EUDR geolocation due diligence, US Lacey Act declaration support, UK Timber Regulation and ISPM-15 heat-treated export packing — the exact paperwork reclaimed and sheesham pieces are scrutinised for.
