Bone Inlay Sideboards — Hand-Set, Export-Grade, Container-Ready

A bone inlay sideboard is a statement credenza: thousands of hand-cut bone pieces set into resin over a hand-drawn pattern, carried on a solid-wood carcass built to survive a sea freight and a decade of use. We manufacture them for importers, interior designers and hospitality buyers worldwide — documented, compliant and consolidated into one container alongside the rest of your order.

What it is

Genuine inlay, not print — built on a carcass that travels

Bone inlay is one of the oldest decorative crafts of north-west India. On every piece we build, an artisan draws the pattern by hand onto a solid-wood sideboard, then cuts and sets individual pieces of camel bone into resin, chip by chip, until the motif is complete. The bone is filed flush, the background colour is painted by hand, and the whole surface is sealed. The result has depth and a tactile seam you can feel — the opposite of a printed decal or vinyl wrap pretending to be inlay.

The bone we use is a by-product of the food industry: no animal is raised or killed for decoration. Because the work is entirely hand-executed, no two sideboards are identical — line weight, colour density and the grain of each bone chip vary gently. We treat that as the signature of a real inlay piece and document agreed tolerances so your repeat orders stay recognisably consistent.

The carcass under the pattern

Decoration is only as durable as what it sits on. We build the carcass from kiln-seasoned sheesham (Indian rosewood) or mango wood — dense, stable hardwoods that hold hardware and resist the humidity swings of a container crossing the equator. Drawers run on solid-wood or soft-close runners to your spec, backs are rebated, and large pieces can be built knockdown so the inlay surface travels flat and protected.

Range

Patterns, colourways and companion pieces

Floral & vine

The classic Jaipur repeat — scrolling flowers and leaves across doors and drawer fronts. Best-seller in ivory-on-indigo and ivory-on-black for retail and designer programmes.

Geometric & moroccan

Star, honeycomb and lattice fields for a cleaner, contemporary read. Strong in grey, teal and white-on-white for hospitality and modern interiors.

Mother-of-pearl & brass

Same carcass, alternative inlay — iridescent MOP or warm brass wire for a higher-luxe finish. A natural upsell within one inlay collection.

Bone inlay works as a collection, not a single piece. We build matching sideboards and credenzas alongside nightstands, dressers, media units, coffee and bedside tables in the same pattern and colourway — so you can merchandise a coordinated range from one supplier and one container.

Where it earns its place

Use cases for buyers

Importers & online sellers

A high-margin hero product with genuine shelf and scroll appeal. Knockdown build and FBA/retail-ready packaging make it practical for Wayfair, Amazon and Etsy-style programmes.

Interior designers & architects

Custom patterns, bespoke sizes and specified colourways to match a scheme — with documented, buyer-ready compliance for spec and procurement sign-off.

Hospitality & contract

Statement reception and suite credenzas built to repeatable spec, with low-emission finishes and lot traceability suited to hotel and resort fit-outs.

Private-label brands

We are the-look manufacturer behind your label: your pattern, your palette, your packaging, prototyped and sampled before production runs.

Living with it

Care & handling

Bone inlay is robust but rewards sensible care. Dust with a soft dry or barely-damp cloth; avoid soaking the surface, as standing water can lift the sealant over time. Keep pieces out of prolonged direct sun and away from radiators or vents — like all solid wood, the carcass responds to extreme dry heat. Avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners, which can dull the painted ground and the polish over the bone. Lift rather than drag when moving, and fit soft pads under anything placed on the top. We supply care guidance with every order so your end customers keep the finish looking new.

Why source from us

Compliant, consolidated, container-reliable

Bone inlay is widely copied and inconsistently made. What separates a sideboard that sells from one that comes back is the discipline behind it — and that is where we compete.

  • Documented compliance. FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh timber-legality on the wood, EUDR due-diligence and geolocation readiness, US Lacey Act declaration support, and CARB / TSCA Title VI-compliant finishes — with SGS third-party inspection and SEDEX / SMETA ethical audits available. Certificate details go directly to serious buyers; we publish names, never numbers.
  • Single-source breadth. Pattern-match bone inlay with the rest of your order — other solid-wood furniture, metalware, marble and décor — in one compliant, QC-governed container.
  • Scale from trial to repeat. Prove quality on an LCL trial, then grow to full FCL volumes through our own factory plus a vetted Jodhpur-and-Jaipur manufacturing network. Factory visit available on prior intimation.
  • Real custom. ODM ready designs plus OEM to your drawing, with CNC carving, bespoke colourways and branded packaging.

See how we handle wood legality end-to-end on our EUDR readiness page, or review the hardwood options behind the inlay on the sheesham material guide.

Questions buyers ask

Bone inlay sideboard FAQs

What is a bone inlay sideboard made of?

A solid-wood carcass (sheesham or mango) with hand-cut camel bone pieces set into resin over a drawn pattern, then hand-finished. The bone is a by-product of the food industry — no animal is raised or killed for inlay. Each piece is individually cut, laid, filed flush and polished, so no two sideboards are identical.

Is every bone inlay sideboard handmade and slightly different?

Yes. The pattern is drawn by hand, each bone chip is cut and placed by hand, and the background colour is painted by hand. Expect gentle variation in line weight, colour density and grain — this is the signature of genuine inlay, not a printed or decal imitation. We document tolerances so repeat orders stay within an agreed range.

What finishes and colours are available?

Classic combinations include ivory bone on black, indigo, grey, teal, emerald, terracotta and white, plus natural camel-bone-on-wood. Mother-of-pearl and brass-inlay variants are available on the same carcass. All painted and sealed surfaces use CARB / TSCA Title VI-compliant, low-emission finishes suitable for US and EU interiors.

What is the minimum order quantity for export?

A trial or sample order can ship LCL so you can assess quality before committing. For best container pricing we ask for a 1x20ft FCL minimum thereafter, and bone inlay sideboards can be mixed with other categories in one consolidated container. Typical lead time is 30 to 45 days.

Can you produce custom bone inlay designs or private-label pieces?

Yes. We work ODM from our ready designs and OEM to your drawings — custom patterns, dimensions, colourways, hardware and branded or retail-ready packaging. Share a reference or CAD and we will prototype and sample before production.

How are bone inlay sideboards packed and shipped so the inlay survives transit?

Each piece is corner-protected, foam-wrapped and crated in ISPM-15 heat-treated export packaging, with drawers and hardware secured. We ship FOB or CIF from Mundra or Nhava Sheva. Knockdown construction is available on larger pieces to raise container density and cut breakage risk.
