Vintage headboards — hand-aged patina on a solid-wood frame.

The vintage headboard looks as if it carries a history — turned spindles, panelled or sleigh fronts, softened edges and a hand-aged patina finish. We manufacture vintage headboards in Jodhpur in solid mango, acacia and sheesham, built new and distressed by hand for the character of an antique with production consistency — flat-packed, legally sourced and supplied from a trial order up to repeat container volumes.

What a vintage headboard is — and why buyers specify ours

A vintage headboard is a bedhead built to read as a cherished antique: turned spindles, panelled or curved sleigh fronts, worn high-points and a deliberately aged finish that looks lived-in rather than new. It anchors the vintage, cottage, French-brocante and heritage looks that keep selling across US, UK and European bedroom ranges — and it carries a bedroom set on its own, since the headboard is the piece a buyer sees first.

The craft is in the finishing: controlled distressing and antiquing applied by hand, which is exactly the skill Jodhpur's finishing workshops carry. We build the frame new in solid wood — not veneered particleboard — so you get genuine weight and strength, then layer the ageing so a whole run matches and reorders look the same. For importers diversifying sourcing away from China, it is a like-for-like solid-wood alternative with the timber-legality and formaldehyde paperwork already in place.

The woods we build them in

Each species carries the vintage patina differently. We select by the finish and price point you are targeting.

Mango & acacia

Warm, open grain that takes distressing, antiquing glaze and chalk-style paint beautifully, at a keener cost than sheesham. The workhorse of high-volume vintage bedroom programs.

Sheesham (Indian rosewood)

Dense, hard and highly stable with dramatic figured grain — ideal where a richer, darker patina is wanted and the headboard needs to last decades. CITES-compliant handling of Dalbergia sissoo is documented per order.

Reclaimed / old wood

Salvaged timber with authentic weathering, nail marks and patina for a true period story — and a deforestation-free, sustainability-led line for eco-positioned brands.

Distress and patina are applied by hand and vary by design, so approve a physical sample to lock the ageing before production. Request a vintage headboard sample and we will send finish, detail and size references.

Finishes, use cases and care

Finishes. The vintage look lives in the finish. We build it in layers — a base stain or paint, selective hand-distressing on edges and high-wear points, then an antiquing glaze or wax that settles into carving and corners to mimic years of patina. Options run from soft chalk-style whites and greys for brocante and cottage ranges to deep waxed browns for a heritage read. All finishes meet CARB / TSCA Title VI formaldehyde limits, so there is no surprise at US customs, and the degree of ageing is agreed on a sample so the full run matches.

Use cases. Vintage headboards suit residential bedroom programs, dropship and marketplace catalogues (Wayfair, Amazon, Etsy — with FBA-ready packaging), boutique hotels and characterful short-stay rentals, and interior-designer projects chasing the vintage and French-country trend. Because the finish is designed to look worn, minor new marks blend in rather than stand out — a practical advantage in high-turnover hospitality and rental rooms.

Care. Vintage headboards are kiln-dried to stable moisture levels before joinery, so turned spindles and panelled fronts stay tight through shipping and seasonal humidity swings. The ageing is cosmetic and durable — distressing and antiquing are sealed under a protective coat so they do not rub off. Care is simple: dust with a soft dry cloth, wipe spills promptly, and avoid soaking and harsh solvents that could strip the glaze. Full care and finish guidance ships with every order.

Vintage headboard FAQs

What is a vintage headboard?

A vintage headboard reproduces the look of a well-loved antique bedhead — turned spindles, panelled or sleigh fronts, softened edges and a deliberately aged, distressed or patinated finish. We build it new in solid wood and layer the ageing by hand, so you get the character of an antique with the consistency and strength of a production range.

What wood are your vintage headboards made from?

We build vintage headboards in solid mango and acacia, which take distressing and antiquing beautifully, and in sheesham (Indian rosewood) where a richer grain suits a darker patina. Reclaimed old wood is available where genuine age is wanted. Each is kiln-dried to export moisture levels and legally sourced, with FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh timber-legality documentation on request. We do not use plywood or panel substitutes for structural parts.

How do you create the aged, distressed finish?

We build the look in layers: a base stain or paint, selective hand-distressing on edges and high-wear points, then an antiquing glaze or wax that settles into carving and corners to mimic years of patina. All finishes are CARB / TSCA Title VI formaldehyde-compliant and sealed under a protective coat so the ageing does not wear off in handling. We agree the degree of ageing on a physical sample so every piece in the run matches.

What sizes and fixings can you produce?

We cut to US, UK, EU and Australian bed standards — Twin, Full, Queen, King, California King and metric equivalents — plus fully custom widths and heights to your drawing. Bolt-on to the bed frame, free-standing on legs and wall-mount fixings are all specified per order.

Do vintage headboards ship flat-packed?

Yes. Most vintage headboards ship knockdown / RTA so they pack flat to maximize container density and cut freight and breakage — ideal for online sellers and large importers. Assembled builds are available for boutique and hospitality orders.

What is the minimum order and lead time?

A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container) so you can approve the wood, patina and build first. For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft FCL is our standard minimum, and we consolidate vintage headboards with matching beds, nightstands and mirrors into one mixed container. Typical lead time is 30 to 45 days; urgent orders can be arranged at a premium.
