Why mango for a headboard

A genuine hardwood with a sustainability story your customers believe.

A headboard is the most visible piece in the bedroom, so it has to read as solid and well made the moment a buyer sees the photograph. Mango delivers that. With a Janka hardness around 1,070 lbf it sits alongside American black walnut and most oak — dense enough to carry a wide panel without cupping and to resist the everyday knocks of a guest room, yet soft and even enough in the grain to carve, flute and profile cleanly, which opens up slatted, arched and hand-detailed designs that a harder, more brittle wood fights. Its interlocked grain runs through golden and honey tones with pink, grey and darker streaking, so each panel is genuinely one of a kind and photographs with real warmth. Just as important for the buyers diversifying away from a single source, mango carries a sustainability story that stands up to scrutiny: it comes from orchard trees felled at the end of their fruiting life and replanted, so your range is solid wood and deforestation-free. The result is a luxury-looking, easy-to-sell headboard at a mid-market landed cost — which is why mango anchors so many bedroom and contract ranges.

Because mango's tone varies board to board, we recommend approving a physical finish panel so you know the grain and stain range you will receive. Request a mango wood sample for grain and finish references, or read the full species profile in the mango wood material guide.

Care & durability

Built to stay flat, finished to stay rich.

Mango is strong and dimensionally stable once it is properly dried, so the groundwork is in the build: we kiln-dry every board to a stable moisture content before joinery and construct panels with cross-battening or framed construction so a wide span holds flat rather than cupping. In service, mango asks very little — keep the headboard indoors and out of prolonged direct sun to hold its tonal depth, wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and buff dry, and avoid standing water, harsh solvents and silicone sprays. Oiled and waxed surfaces stay rich with an occasional feed of a suitable wood wax two to four times a year; lacquered and PU-sealed panels need only routine dusting. Because mango is not naturally rot-resistant, we build it for covered indoor use and steer outdoor-exposed projects to sheesham, acacia or teak. Full care and finish guidance ships with every order — see the mango wood care guide — so your retail and hospitality customers get consistent advice.

Questions buyers ask

Mango wood headboard sourcing, answered.

Is mango wood good for a headboard?

Yes. Mango (Mangifera indica) is a dense tropical hardwood with a Janka hardness around 1,070 lbf — comparable to American black walnut and harder than many pines and oaks used for case goods. It is strong enough to carry a wide headboard panel without cupping when kiln-dried, carves and machines cleanly for profiled and slatted designs, and takes oil, stain and lacquer beautifully. Its lustrous, richly varied grain photographs well and sells, which makes it a reliable, cost-advantaged choice for retail and hospitality bedroom ranges.

What does a mango wood headboard look like?

Mango has an interlocked, often lustrous grain that runs through golden and honey tones with pink, grey and darker streaking, so every panel is subtly different and reads as warm and characterful rather than flat. We can leave that natural variation on show for a feature piece, or select and sequence boards for a calmer, matched look across a full bedroom collection. Finishes range from natural oil to deep walnut and espresso stains, whitewash and two-tone looks.

Is mango wood sustainable for furniture?

Mango is one of the most sustainable furniture timbers. The tree is grown primarily for fruit, and after roughly fifteen years its yield falls and it is felled and replanted as part of normal orchard rotation — so a headboard uses a by-product of existing agriculture rather than timber cut from forest for its own sake. We document it with FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh timber-legality and are EUDR-ready with deforestation-free, geolocated due diligence.

What sizes do you export mango wood headboards in?

We manufacture to US, UK and EU mattress widths — twin/single, full/double, queen, king and super-king — with the panel usually run a little wider than the mattress for overhang and panel height made to order. Standard widths and a height range are in the specification table above, and any custom width, height or profile is produced to your drawing.

How do mango headboards mount to a bed?

We build three mountings. Strut-mounted headboards bolt to a standard bed frame on height-adjustable steel legs; wall-hung panels hang on a concealed French-cleat batten to float above the mattress; and freestanding headboards stand on their own feet for hotels and rentals where no wall fixing is wanted. Fixing centres, strut height and panel height are all made to your specification.

What is your minimum order for mango wood headboards?

A trial or sample headboard can ship LCL (part-container). For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum, and we consolidate mango headboards with beds, nightstands, dressers and other categories into one mixed container. Typical lead time is 30–45 days, FOB or CIF from Mundra or Nhava Sheva.
