Wide industrial dresser in reclaimed wood with a black wrought-iron frame and metal cup-pull handles

What an industrial dresser is

An industrial dresser is the wide, lower bedroom piece — a horizontal bank of drawers, usually two columns across, that marries a solid-wood body to an exposed metal frame. It borrows the furniture language of old factories, workshops and mercantile warehouses: visible bolts and angle iron, chunky timber fronts, utilitarian cup pulls or bin handles, and finishes that celebrate grain, saw marks and patina rather than hiding them. The low, broad proportions give a flat top for a mirror, lamp or styling display and ample folded-clothing storage — equally at home in a loft bedroom, a boutique-hotel room or a retail floor set.

We build this category the way it should be built — as real furniture, not a photograph of it. Drawer fronts, tops and carcasses are solid hardwood, not printed particleboard, so the piece carries the weight, the repairability and the service life the style promises. The metal is genuine wrought or tubular iron, welded and powder-coated, carrying the drawer bank rather than decorating a panel box. Because a dresser is wider than a tall chest, frame rigidity and drawer-runner quality matter more — and that is exactly where honest construction shows.

Woods we use, and why they suit the industrial look

The industrial aesthetic lives or dies on the timber. Each wood brings a different grain, weight and price position — we help you match wood to market during quoting.

Sheesham (Indian rosewood)

Dense, hard and strikingly figured, with deep brown-to-golden grain. The premium choice: it takes a wax or matte lacquer beautifully and stands up to heavy daily use across a wide top. Our handling of Dalbergia sissoo is CITES-compliant.

Reclaimed / old wood

Salvaged timber with authentic nail holes, colour variation and weathering — the most sought-after face for a true industrial dresser, and a genuinely deforestation-free sustainability story for your buyers. See our reclaimed-wood guide.

Mango

Fast-growing, open-grained and cost-advantaged, mango carries distressed, two-tone and black-wash finishes well. A strong value tier for online sellers and volume retail programs.

Acacia

Hard-wearing with bold, swirling grain and warm tones. A durable mid-tier that holds up to contract and hospitality use while keeping landed cost competitive.

All timber is covered by FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh (EPCH Indian Timber Legality) documentation. Compare the full range on our solid-wood materials guide.

Frames, finishes and hardware

The metalwork sets the industrial character, and on a wide dresser it also carries real load. We fabricate and powder-coat frames in-house and in our vetted metal cluster, then match the finish to your market.

  • Iron frames: tubular, square-section or angle iron — pipe-and-flange, trestle, A-frame, hairpin or caged bases, braced for the wider span. Welds dressed, then powder-coated matte black, gunmetal, raw-steel-effect or antiqued; waxed raw iron available where a rustic patina is wanted.
  • Wood finishes: natural wax and oil, matte or satin lacquer, distressed and antiqued, black-wash, two-tone and whitewash. All finishing uses CARB / TSCA Title VI formaldehyde-compliant products.
  • Hardware: industrial cup pulls, bar handles, bin pulls, label-holder card frames and cast-iron knobs in black, brass, copper or brushed nickel — branded or custom hardware on OEM runs.
  • Drawer build: solid-wood drawer boxes on metal or timber runners, with centre support on wide drawers; soft-close slides on request. Backs and bases are solid or solid-edged — never loose ply panels.
  • Mirror option: matching framed mirrors — iron-trimmed or solid-wood-framed — can be supplied to pair with the dresser as a bedroom set.

Care & service life

Industrial dressers are made to be lived with and kept, not replaced. Dust the wood with a dry or barely-damp cloth and refresh wax or oil finishes once or twice a year; avoid soaking the broad top and harsh solvents. Wipe the iron frame dry and address any surface mark with a touch of paste wax or matching paint — because frames are powder-coated, this is rare. Keep pieces out of prolonged direct sun and off radiators to limit movement in the solid timber across the wide span. Being solid wood on bolted metal, these dressers are fully repairable: drawers can be re-waxed, handles swapped, runners serviced and frames re-coated, extending service life for years.

Why source your industrial dressers from Jodhpur Handicraft

We are a manufacturer-exporter in Jodhpur, Rajasthan — the global hub for solid-wood and iron furniture — with our own factory plus a vetted multi-cluster network, so we scale from a trial order to large repeat container volumes under managed QC. The industrial category is core to Jodhpur's craft, and we pair that credibility with the compliance most rivals can't put on paper.

  • Compliance-proven: FSC chain-of-custody, Vriksh, EUDR due-diligence & geolocation ready, US Lacey Act support, UKTR, CARB / TSCA finishes, SEDEX / SMETA ethical audit, ISO quality management and SGS third-party inspection. Certificate details go to serious buyers directly.
  • Single-source breadth: fill one container with industrial dressers plus the matching solid-wood furniture range — beds, nightstands, chests, mirrors and metalware.
  • Flat-pack economics: knockdown builds cut freight and breakage and lift units-per-container on a wide, otherwise bulky piece.
  • ODM + OEM + CNC: ready designs or full private-label, with precise repeatable machining.
  • Factory visit available on prior intimation to inspect build and finish first-hand.

Frequently asked questions

What wood are your industrial dressers made from?

Solid hardwood on an iron frame: sheesham (Indian rosewood), mango, acacia and genuine reclaimed/old wood, with teak and rosewood on request. Drawer fronts, tops and carcasses are solid timber — never veneered particleboard — so the grain, weight and repairability match the industrial look. Tubular or angle-iron bases and runners are powder-coated or waxed to resist rust in transit.

What is the difference between an industrial dresser and a chest of drawers?

A dresser is the wide, lower piece — typically a double (horizontal) layout of six to nine drawers across two banks, often paired with a mirror — sized for folded clothing and bedroom display. A chest of drawers is the taller, narrower vertical form. We build both on the same solid-wood-and-iron construction; this page covers the wide dresser configurations.

Can I order industrial dressers flat-packed to save on freight?

Yes. Most of our industrial dressers ship knockdown (flat-pack / RTA): the iron base bolts to a solid-wood drawer bank, so you fit far more units per container and cut transit breakage. Assembled builds are available where a project needs them, and we advise the densest safe configuration per model during quoting.

What is the minimum order for industrial dressers?

A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container). For best competitive pricing thereafter, the minimum is one 20ft full container load, and you can mix industrial dressers with nightstands, mirrors, chests and other categories in the same compliant container.

Are the woods and finishes compliant for the US and EU markets?

Yes. Timber is covered by FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh timber-legality, with CITES-compliant sheesham handling; finishes use CARB / TSCA Title VI formaldehyde-compliant products. We are EUDR-ready with geolocation and deforestation-free due diligence and support US Lacey Act declarations, UK Timber Regulation and ISPM-15 heat-treated export packing.

Can you make industrial dressers to our own dimensions, finish or brand?

Yes. We work ODM (our ready designs) and OEM (full custom and private-label): bespoke widths, drawer counts, iron-base styles, metal and wood finishes, branded hardware, and retail-ready or Amazon-FBA-ready packaging, with CNC machining for precise repeatable runs.
