Why wrought iron for a chest of drawers

Metal does the structure. Wood does the selling.

A wrought iron chest answers the demand for the industrial, factory-loft and modern-rustic look that keeps selling across retail and hospitality. Instead of a full wooden carcass, the piece is built on a frame of iron — a malleable, highly weldable metal that can be worked into slim, strong legs, cross-braces and angular boxed bases that no joinery would hold as cleanly. That iron gives the chest its black, graphic, engineered silhouette and a genuinely planted stance on the floor. The warmth comes from solid wood: mango, reclaimed timber or dense sheesham drawer fronts and tops that carry the grain buyers want to see on a shelf. Jodhpur is the recognised hub for exactly this iron-and-wood furniture — our metalworkers weld and finish the frames in-house, our joiners build the drawers, and the two come together under one compliant roof. It is the chest for buyers selling the industrial story without giving up solid-wood credibility.

Packing & shipping

Assembled or knockdown (flat-pack / RTA) to cut freight and breakage, with retail-ready, Amazon-FBA-ready or branded packaging. ISPM-15 heat-treated export packing, FOB or CIF from Mundra / Nhava Sheva.

Import-ready compliance

Iron-and-wood that clears customs correctly.

Even an industrial chest is a timber product in the eyes of your customs authority, because its drawers and top are solid wood — so we document the wood exactly as we would a full wooden chest. Every wrought iron chest ships with Vriksh timber-legality verification, FSC chain-of-custody on request, and EUDR-ready geolocation and deforestation-free due diligence; sheesham-drawered builds are CITES-handled with the required permits. We provide US Lacey Act declaration support, UK Timber Regulation coverage, and CARB / TSCA Title VI formaldehyde-compliant wood finishes, with social and quality assurance under SEDEX / SMETA, ISO and SGS inspection, and ISPM-15 heat-treated export packing. Certificate references go directly to serious buyers — never published.

Care & durability

A chest that keeps its edge.

The iron frame is cleaned, welded and coated before assembly, so it arrives corrosion-protected and needs only an occasional wipe with a dry or lightly damp cloth — avoid abrasive pads that can mark the finish. Keep the chest indoors and out of prolonged damp; for humid or coastal rooms we can specify heavier protective coatings at the order stage. The solid-wood drawer fronts and top are kiln-dried before joinery so they hold their shape, and they take the same simple care as any solid-wood piece: dust regularly, keep out of prolonged direct sun, and refresh oiled or waxed surfaces once or twice a year, while sealed finishes need only wiping. Tighten frame fittings if a knockdown chest loosens after assembly. Full care and finish guidance ships with every order so your retail and contract customers get consistent advice.

Questions buyers ask

Wrought iron chest sourcing, answered.

What is a wrought iron chest of drawers?

It is an industrial-style chest built on a welded iron frame rather than a full wooden carcass, with solid-wood drawer fronts and tops — typically mango, sheesham or reclaimed wood. The iron carries the structure and gives the piece its black, angular, factory-loft look, while the wood provides the warm, saleable grain. Because every piece has at least one solid-wood component, it sits squarely within our solid-wood export range.

Does the iron rust in transit or in use?

Our iron frames are cleaned, welded and then powder-coated or finished to resist moisture and corrosion before the wood is fitted, so they arrive sound and stay that way in normal indoor use. We recommend these chests for indoor settings; for humid or coastal environments we can specify heavier protective coatings on request.

Which woods do you pair with the iron frames?

Most buyers choose mango for its affordable, characterful grain, reclaimed wood for a rustic recycled story, or sheesham (Indian rosewood) for density and a premium feel. We finish the wood in CARB / TSCA Title VI formaldehyde-compliant formulations and match the iron to a black, raw, antique or powder-coated colour of your choice.

Can wrought iron chests ship flat-packed to save freight?

Yes. The iron frame and wood drawers lend themselves to knockdown (flat-pack / RTA) construction, which cuts freight cost and breakage and suits large importers and online sellers. We also consolidate them into mixed containers with beds, sideboards and décor to balance weight and volume.

What is your minimum order for wrought iron chests of drawers?

A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container). For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum, and we consolidate iron-and-wood chests with other categories into a single mixed container.

Can you build wrought iron chests to our own design?

Yes. We work as ODM (our catalogue designs) and OEM (your drawings, dimensions, iron finish, wood species and private-label or retail-ready packaging), including hairpin, A-frame and boxed-steel bases, custom drawer counts and branded hardware.
