Cane benches — hand-woven rattan seats on solid-wood frames.

Hand-woven cane gives a bench the light, breathable, natural look that anchors boho, coastal and colonial interiors. We weave rattan cane onto kiln-dried hardwood frames — your wood, your finish, your weave pattern — and ship them flat or assembled, from a trial order up to repeat container volumes.

Why cane for a bench

Lightness and breathability a solid seat can't give.

Cane is the smooth outer skin of the rattan palm — a fast-growing climbing vine, not a hardwood — cut into fine strips and woven by hand. On a bench it does something no solid panel can: it keeps the piece visually light and physically airy, so the seat breathes, stays cool in warm climates, and feels relaxed rather than heavy. That airy, artisanal character is exactly why cane defines the boho, coastal, Scandinavian and British-colonial looks that designers and retailers keep asking for. We pair the weave with a kiln-dried hardwood frame — mango, sheesham or teak — which carries the structural load while the cane spans the seat, locked in with a traditional spline or wrapped over a drum. Rattan is also genuinely sustainable: it regrows quickly and supports rural weaving livelihoods. The one rule is that natural cane belongs indoors; for outdoor projects we offer an all-weather synthetic weave that keeps the look without the fragility.

Care & durability

Simple care keeps the weave taut for years.

Cane rewards light, consistent care. Dust it regularly and wipe with a barely damp cloth, working into the weave rather than soaking it; never saturate natural cane or leave it standing wet. In very dry, heated interiors a light mist on the underside once in a while keeps the fibre supple and helps a seat that has relaxed over time snap back taut. Keep the bench out of direct sunlight to preserve the honey colour. The hardwood frame is kiln-dried and finished to your brief, so it stays stable under the seat. Because the cane is a serviceable panel, a sagged or damaged weave can be re-tensioned or re-woven by a specialist without scrapping the bench — a genuine advantage over moulded seats. For outdoor settings, our synthetic all-weather weave wipes clean and shrugs off sun and rain. Full care guidance ships with every order.

Questions buyers ask

Cane bench sourcing, answered.

What is cane and how is a cane bench made?

Cane is the smooth outer skin of the rattan palm, cut into strips and hand-woven into an open or closed webbing. We build a kiln-dried solid-wood frame — usually mango, sheesham or teak — then set a hand-woven cane panel into the seat, locked with a spline or wrapped over a drum frame. The result is a light, breathable seat that reads natural and artisanal.

Are cane benches strong enough to sit on?

Yes. A properly woven and tensioned cane seat on a hardwood frame comfortably carries normal seated loads; the frame does the structural work and the cane spans the seat. We tension and double-check every panel, and for heavier contract use we can specify a tighter weave, closer frame supports or a wood-and-cane hybrid seat.

Can cane benches go outdoors?

Natural cane is an indoor material. Rain, damp and harsh sun dry it out, fade it and eventually make it brittle, so we recommend cane benches for indoor and covered-porch use. Where buyers want the same airy look outdoors, we can quote a synthetic all-weather rattan weave on a teak or powder-coated frame instead.

How do I care for a cane bench?

Dust regularly and wipe with a barely damp cloth; avoid soaking. In very dry, heated rooms an occasional light mist on the underside keeps the cane supple and prevents sagging. Keep it out of direct sun to hold the colour. A sagged panel can be re-tensioned or re-woven by a specialist rather than scrapping the bench. Full care guidance ships with every order.

What is your minimum order for cane benches?

A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container). For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum, and we consolidate cane benches with cane chairs, headboards, cabinets and other categories into a single mixed container.

Can you make cane benches to our own design and brand?

Yes. We work as ODM from our catalogue and as OEM to your drawings — custom frame woods and finishes, open or closed cane weaves, bench lengths, arched or straight backs, plus private-label and retail-ready packaging. Cane and rattan work is a long-standing craft in our network.
