Why acacia for a chest of drawers

Hard enough for hard use, figured enough to sell itself.

Acacia is one of the harder hardwoods we work — commonly 1700 lbf or above on the Janka scale, which puts it well ahead of mango and in the same league as many premium timbers. For a chest of drawers that matters: tops, fronts and runners take the knocks, drags and daily loading of real bedroom use and keep looking good. But acacia's real pull is its grain. Few woods are as visually dramatic — warm honey and amber flowing into reddish and deep chocolate brown, often with wavy figure and dark streaks in a single panel, so every front is a one-off. That natural variegation means an acacia dresser reads as high-end with nothing more than a clear finish. It is also a naturally water-tolerant, dense wood that copes well with the humidity of bedrooms, dressing rooms and coastal homes. Hard, beautiful and cost-advantaged — it earns its place on a retail floor.

Care & durability

Hard-wearing surfaces that stay sharp.

Acacia's hardness is its best defence — tops and fronts take everyday knocks and drawer handling without marking the way softer woods do. Carcasses and drawer boxes are kiln-dried to stable moisture levels before joinery, so the dense timber stays flat and drawers glide cleanly through humidity changes. Dust with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth and wipe spills promptly; avoid soaking and harsh solvents. A light oil or wax refresh once a year keeps natural and oiled surfaces warm and feeds the grain's contrast; sealed finishes need only wiping. Keep the chest out of prolonged direct sun to hold the colour even. Full care and finish guidance ships with every order so your retail and contract customers get consistent advice.

Questions buyers ask

Acacia chest sourcing, answered.

Is acacia wood good for a chest of drawers?

Yes. Acacia is one of the harder furniture hardwoods (Janka commonly 1700 lbf or above), so drawer tops, fronts and runners resist scratches, dents and daily wear very well. It also has a dramatic variegated grain — warm honey through deep chocolate, often in the same board — that makes every chest visually striking without any added decoration.

What does acacia wood look like?

Acacia is prized for contrast. Its grain swings from pale gold and amber to rich reddish and dark brown, frequently with wavy figure and dark streaks running through a single panel. On a chest of drawers this reads as warm, characterful and high-end, and it carries both light natural finishes and darker stains beautifully.

Can an acacia chest handle humidity?

Acacia is a hard, naturally water-tolerant hardwood, which helps it cope with the humidity swings of bedrooms, dressing rooms and coastal homes better than many softer woods. For a chest of drawers we treat it as an indoor piece, kiln-dried and properly finished so drawers stay true. For genuine outdoor exposure we would steer you to teak.

What drawer construction do you use?

Drawer boxes are built with dovetail or dowelled corners on solid acacia carcasses, running on wood-on-wood runners as standard or metal soft-close / ball-bearing slides on request. Every component is kiln-dried to stable moisture levels so the hard, dense timber stays flat and drawers glide cleanly.

What is your minimum order for acacia chests of drawers?

A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container). For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum, and we consolidate acacia chests with beds, benches, sideboards and other categories into a single mixed container.

Can you make acacia chests to our own design and finish?

Yes. We work as ODM (our catalogue designs) and OEM (your drawings, dimensions, finishes and private-label or retail-ready packaging), including natural, stained and two-tone fronts, hairpin or iron-leg bases, and knockdown builds to cut freight.
