Wrought iron bookshelves — hand-forged iron frames with solid-wood shelves.
Iron is what lets a bookshelf stay slim and open while carrying a heavy load — the signature of industrial and loft shelving. We manufacture hand-forged wrought-iron bookcases and étagères with solid-wood shelves in Jodhpur — powder-coated, legally sourced timber, FSC and EUDR-ready, finished to your spec and shipped from a single trial order up to repeat container volumes.
The frame that lets a bookshelf stay slim and still carry the load.
An all-wood bookcase has to be bulky to carry weight; an iron frame does not. Steel is far stiffer than timber, so a hand-forged wrought-iron frame holds a heavy book load on narrow uprights and thin profiles — which is exactly why industrial, loft and open-étagère shelving is built around iron. Our frames are cut, bent and welded by hand in Jodhpur, then cleaned, primed and powder-coated for a hard, baked finish that resists scuffing and surface rust far better than wet paint. The iron carries the structure; solid-wood shelves — mango, acacia, sheesham or reclaimed timber — give warmth, grain and the surface for books, so you get the strength of metal and the character of wood in one piece. It is a combination that reads as modern-industrial, loft or contemporary-rustic depending on the wood and coat colour, and it flat-packs tight for efficient freight. Durable, slim, and endlessly configurable to a brief.

Specify the wood species and coat colour, and we recommend approving a physical sample so you see the metal finish and the wood together. Request a wrought iron bookshelf sample and we will send frame-finish and wood references. For the metalware profile, see the wrought iron material guide.
Étagères, pipe-frame and wall shelving — built to spec.
The dimensions below are standard starting points. The iron frame carries the load, so we can run slim, tall and wide builds that all-wood construction cannot. Every unit is built to your exact specification.
| Type | Typical size (W × D × H) | Shelves | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Industrial étagère | 90 × 35 × 190 cm | 5 wood on iron | Lofts, cafés, industrial retail |
| Wide bay / library | 150 × 35 × 200 cm | 5–6 wood on iron | Contract & institutional shelving |
| Pipe-frame wall shelf | 120 × 25 × 90 cm | 2–3, wall-mounted | Studios, display, hospitality |
| Ladder / leaning shelf | 55 × 35 × 185 cm | 4–5, graduated | Boutique retail, compact rooms |
Build options
Flat-bar, square-tube or pipe-frame; open or braced-back; fixed shelves; freestanding, wall-mounted or modular bays. Choose shelf wood — mango, acacia, sheesham or reclaimed — to set tone and budget.
Finishes
Powder-coated matt black, gunmetal, bronze, white or custom RAL on the frame; wood shelves in natural, oiled, stained or lacquered — in CARB / TSCA Title VI formaldehyde-compliant formulations. Heavier coating for humid rooms.
Packing & shipping
Assembled or knockdown (flat-pack / RTA) with bolt fittings — iron-and-wood packs dense and ships efficiently — plus carton, retail-ready, Amazon-FBA-ready or branded packaging. ISPM-15 heat-treated wood packing, FOB or CIF from Mundra / Nhava Sheva.
Iron-and-wood shelving, documented for your market.
A wrought-iron bookshelf still carries wood, so the same timber regulations apply — and we document both the metal and the timber. The solid-wood shelves ship with FSC chain-of-custody on request, Vriksh timber-legality verification, and EUDR-ready geolocation and deforestation-free due diligence; where the shelf wood is sheesham (Dalbergia sissoo) we handle CITES too. We provide US Lacey Act declaration support, UK Timber Regulation coverage, and CARB / TSCA Title VI formaldehyde-compliant wood finishes, with social and quality assurance under SEDEX / SMETA, ISO and SGS inspection, and ISPM-15 heat-treated export packing for the timber components. Certificate references go directly to serious buyers — never published, to prevent misuse.
| Area | Our standard |
|---|---|
| Timber legality | Vriksh verified · documented chain |
| Sustainability | FSC chain-of-custody on request |
| EU market | EUDR-ready · geolocation · UKTR |
| US market | Lacey Act support · CARB / TSCA finishes |
| Social & quality | SEDEX / SMETA · ISO · SGS inspection |

A metal-strong frame and warm-wood shelves, built to last.
The powder-coated steel frame is the structural backbone: baked-on coating resists scuffing, chipping and surface rust in normal indoor use, and the welded, ground joints keep the unit rigid and square under heavy loading. Wipe the frame with a soft dry or barely damp cloth; avoid abrasives that could scratch the coat. The solid-wood shelves are kiln-dried before assembly and cared for like any solid-wood piece — dusted, kept out of prolonged direct sun, oiled or lacquer-wiped as the finish requires. Bolt-fixed knockdown joints can be checked and re-tightened after transit and occasionally in service. For humid rooms or covered-outdoor settings we specify heavier coating and corrosion-resistant hardware. Full care and finish guidance ships with every order so your retail and contract customers get consistent advice on both the metal and the wood.
Wrought iron bookshelf sourcing, answered.
What is a wrought iron bookshelf made of?
Our wrought iron bookshelves pair a hand-forged mild-steel frame with solid-wood shelves — typically mango, acacia, sheesham or reclaimed timber. The iron carries the structural load and gives the slim, open industrial look; the wood gives warmth and the surface for books. Frames are welded and finished by hand in Jodhpur, so joints are clean and the whole unit is rigid.
Is a wrought iron frame stronger than an all-wood bookshelf?
For a given slim profile, yes. Steel is far stiffer than wood, so an iron frame carries heavy book loads on narrow uprights that would be impossible in timber alone — which is why industrial and open étagère shelving uses iron. We size the steel section and weld the joints to the load, and the wood shelves sit in or on the frame rather than carrying the structure.
How are the iron frames finished so they do not rust or mark?
Every frame is cleaned, primed and powder-coated — a baked, hard-wearing finish far tougher than wet paint — in matt black, gunmetal, bronze or a custom colour. Powder coat resists scuffing, chipping and surface rust in normal indoor use. For humid rooms or covered-outdoor settings we specify heavier coating and corrosion-resistant hardware.
What is your minimum order for wrought iron bookshelves?
A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container). For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum, and iron-and-wood shelving flat-packs well, so we consolidate it efficiently with tables, consoles and other categories into a mixed container.
Can wrought iron bookshelves ship flat-packed?
Yes, and they do it well. The iron frame and wood shelves knock down into a compact, dense flat-pack with bolt fittings, which cuts freight cost and transit breakage and suits online sellers and large importers. Assembled builds are also available. Either way we use ISPM-15 heat-treated packing for the wood and protective packing for the steel.
Can you make wrought iron bookshelves to our own design and brand?
Yes. We work as ODM (our catalogue designs) and OEM — your drawings, dimensions, wood species, coat colour and private-label or retail-ready packaging. Pipe-frame shelving, ladder shelves, wall-mounted brackets, étagères and modular bays are all core builds, with custom metal bending, welding and CNC wood detailing to your spec.
Sample the frame and wood, then ship from one container up.
Approve the frame finish, wood species and build on a physical sample, then scale from a trial order to repeat container volumes on a 30–45 day lead time — QC-governed and documented for your market. Read the metalware profile on the wrought iron material guide, or compare woods, builds and sizes on the bookshelves hub.
