Iron and wood bookshelves — solid timber shelves on welded steel frames.
The format buyers ask for when a bookcase has to carry real weight and read as modern-industrial: solid-wood shelves set into a welded, powder-coated steel frame. We manufacture them in Jodhpur in bookcase, ladder and étagère formats — flat-pack or assembled, legally sourced, FSC and EUDR-ready, and shipped from a trial order up to repeat container volumes.
Two materials doing the job each does best.
A bookcase is mostly a loading problem. Books are dense, shelves are long, and wood-only bookcases solve this with thick boards and bulky joinery — which looks heavy and ships heavy. Pairing solid wood with mild-steel changes the maths. The welded steel frame takes the structural load and the lateral racking, so the timber can be a clean, honest shelf rather than a structural member. That means slimmer shelves, longer unsupported spans and an open, airy silhouette that still carries a full run of hardbacks without sag. It also reads unmistakably as modern-industrial — the matte-black frame against warm sheesham or mango grain is one of the most requested looks in contract and retail interiors. And because the two materials separate cleanly, these bookcases knock down flat better than almost any other furniture we make, which is why importers and online sellers favour them.

Grain, tone and exact figure vary by timber and species, so we recommend approving a physical sample before production. Request an iron-and-wood bookshelf sample and we will send wood tone, metal-finish and shelf-thickness references for your range.

Built to carry weight for years, with almost no upkeep.
Steel frames are welded at the joints rather than bolted at every structural point, so the skeleton stays square and rigid under full load. Powder-coating is baked on, giving a hard, scuff-resistant finish that wipes clean and resists rust in normal indoor use — ideal for high-traffic cafés, offices and shops. Timber shelves are kiln-dried before machining so they hold their shape across humidity swings and do not bow under a packed row of books. Day to day, dust the shelves and wipe the frame with a dry or slightly damp cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners on the powder-coat. For public and child-accessible installations we supply wall-anchor plates and anti-tip fixings as standard, and full care and finish guidance ships with every order so your retail and contract customers get consistent advice.
Iron and wood bookshelf sourcing, answered.
How much weight can an iron and wood bookshelf hold per shelf?
Because the shelves sit in or on a welded steel frame rather than relying on wood-to-wood joints, load capacity is high. A typical solid-wood shelf of 24–36 in span on our standard steel uprights carries a full run of hardback books without sag; we rate and document shelf spans and board thickness per design, and can reinforce with mid-span brackets or thicker 32–40 mm boards for library and retail display loads.
Do the bookshelves ship assembled or flat-pack?
Both. Iron and wood bookcases are ideal for knockdown (flat-pack / RTA) construction — the steel frame bolts together and the timber shelves drop in, which cuts freight volume and breakage dramatically for importers and online sellers. We also supply fully assembled for contract and hospitality projects. Fixings, Allen keys and illustrated instructions are included.
What woods and metal finishes do you use?
Shelves are made in solid sheesham, mango, acacia, teak or reclaimed wood to suit your price point and look, each with its own grain and tone. The steel frame is powder-coated — matte black is the volume seller, with raw-clear, gunmetal, bronze and antique-brass effects available. We match wood tone and metal finish to your range on a signed-off sample.
Are these bookshelves suitable for commercial and retail fit-out?
Yes. Industrial iron-and-wood shelving is a core contract line for us — cafés, bars, boutiques, libraries, offices and hotel lobbies. We build to project drawings, add wall-anchor plates and anti-tip fixings for public spaces, and can run matched families of bookcases, ladder shelves and display units in one container.
What is your minimum order for iron and wood bookshelves?
A trial or sample order can ship LCL. For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum, and we consolidate bookshelves with console tables, desks, benches and other iron-and-wood pieces into a single mixed container.
Can you build to our own drawings and brand?
Yes. We work as ODM from our catalogue and as OEM to your drawings — your dimensions, number of tiers, board thickness, metal profile, finishes and private-label or retail-ready packaging, including CNC-cut timber and custom steelwork.
Approve a sample, then ship from one container up.
Sign off the wood tone, metal finish and shelf thickness on a physical sample, then scale from a trial order to repeat container volumes on a 30–45 day lead time — QC-governed and documented for your market. Compare woods, formats and finishes on the bookshelves hub, or explore the wider solid-wood furniture range.
