Iron & wood benches — solid-wood seats on hand-welded steel frames.
The iron-and-wood bench is Jodhpur's signature build: a solid hardwood seat bolted or welded onto a mild-steel frame. It reads industrial, carries heavy traffic, and ships flat to keep freight low. We manufacture to your species, length and powder-coat — from a trial order up to repeat container volumes.
Two materials doing the job each does best.
A bench lives or dies on two things: a seat that feels warm and looks good, and a frame that will not rack or wobble under years of people sitting, sliding and standing on it. The iron-and-wood bench splits that work cleanly. A hand-welded mild-steel frame takes the structural load — rigid, slim, and immune to the joint-loosening that wooden-legged benches suffer in dry heated rooms. A solid hardwood seat brings the warmth, grain and tactility that steel cannot. Because Jodhpur grew up around both solid-wood joinery and wrought-iron workshops, we build the two trades under one roof: steel is CNC-cut and jig-welded for repeatable geometry, then powder-coated; the seat is kiln-dried, planed and finished separately and mounted last. The result is an honest, industrial piece that suits an entryway, a dining run, a hotel lobby or a mudroom — and ships flat.
What an iron-and-wood bench is made of.
| Attribute | Iron & wood bench characteristic |
|---|---|
| Construction | Solid-wood seat on a hand-welded mild-steel frame; bolted or welded seat fixing |
| Seat wood options | Mango, acacia, sheesham, teak or reclaimed wood — selected for look, use and budget |
| Frame | Mild steel, CNC-cut and jig-welded for identical geometry; square or flat bar stock |
| Frame finish | Powder-coat (matte black, graphite, RAL-matched) or antique/hammered iron effect |
| Strength | Very high — steel carries the load; resists racking and joint loosening over time |
| Best settings | Entryways, hallways, mudrooms, dining runs, hotel lobbies, café and contract seating |
| Outdoor | Covered outdoor with teak/acacia seat and weatherproof coat; indoor as standard |
| Sustainability | FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh timber-legality available on request; EUDR-ready sourcing |
Grain, colour and knot pattern vary with the chosen species and log, so we recommend approving a physical seat before production. Request an iron-and-wood bench sample and we will send wood, powder-coat and length references for your range.
Lengths and builds matched to the room.
Seat height sits around 17–18 in (43–46 cm) for dining and entryway use; every dimension below is a standard starting point and we build to your exact specification for contract projects.
| Type | Length | Seat height | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entryway bench | 36–48 in · 91–122 cm | 17–18 in · 43–46 cm | Hallways, mudrooms, foot-of-bed |
| Dining bench | 48–72 in · 122–183 cm | 17–18 in · 43–46 cm | Dining runs, café and canteen seating |
| Storage / shelf bench | 36–60 in · 91–152 cm | 18 in · 46 cm | Entryway with lower steel shelf for baskets |
| Backed bench | 48–60 in · 122–152 cm | 18 in · 46 cm | Lobby and waiting-area seating |

Packing & shipping
Knockdown (flat-pack / RTA) frame and seat bolt together on arrival to cut freight and breakage, or ship assembled. Carton, retail-ready, Amazon-FBA-ready or branded packaging; ISPM-15 export packing, FOB or CIF from Mundra / Nhava Sheva.
Documented wood and steel, cleared for your market.
Because the seat is real timber, an iron-and-wood bench sits inside the same regulations as any solid-wood import — so we build the paperwork around them. Benches ship with FSC chain-of-custody on request, Vriksh timber-legality verification, and EUDR-ready geolocation and deforestation-free due diligence. We provide US Lacey Act declaration support, UK Timber Regulation coverage, and CARB / TSCA formaldehyde-compliant seat finishes, with social and quality assurance under SEDEX / SMETA, ISO and SGS inspection, and ISPM-15 heat-treated export packing. Certificate references go directly to serious buyers — never published.

Little upkeep, long service.
Steel frames are powder-coated, so they shrug off scuffs and need only an occasional wipe; outdoor or coastal projects get a weatherproof or marine-grade coat to hold off corrosion. The wood seat is kiln-dried before mounting so it stays flat under repeated loading, and is finished to your brief — oiled for a warm matte feel, or lacquered for easy wipe-down in café and canteen settings. Indoor seats need only a soft, slightly damp cloth; avoid soaking and harsh solvents. Because the seat is bolted rather than glued to the frame, a damaged board can be swapped in the field without scrapping the bench — a real advantage for contract fleets. Felt or nylon glides protect floors and let the bench slide without scratching. Full care and finish guidance ships with every order so your retail and hospitality customers get consistent advice.
Iron-and-wood bench sourcing, answered.
What wood do you use on your iron and wood benches?
We top iron frames with solid mango, acacia, sheesham, teak or reclaimed wood — the choice drives both the look and the price. Mango and acacia give a value hardwood seat with lively grain; teak suits covered outdoor use; reclaimed wood brings salvaged character. The frame is mild steel, hand-welded and powder-coated. Tell us the finish and budget and we will recommend the species.
Are iron and wood benches strong enough for contract and hospitality use?
Yes. A welded steel frame carries the load independently of the seat, so iron and wood benches are among the most robust we build — well suited to restaurant waiting areas, hotel lobbies, locker rooms and high-traffic entryways. We size bar stock, add cross-stretchers and foot glides to spec, and can engineer to a stated load rating for contract projects.
Can iron and wood benches go outdoors?
Covered outdoor use such as a porch or verandah is fine with a teak or acacia seat and a weatherproof powder-coat on the frame. For fully exposed settings we advise a teak seat, which handles rain and sun without a sealed finish, plus a marine-grade coating on the steel. For purely indoor benches a standard powder-coat and lacquered wood seat is ideal.
Do iron and wood benches ship assembled or flat-pack?
Both. The steel frame and wood seat can ship as a knockdown (flat-pack / RTA) set that bolts together on arrival, which cuts freight and breakage for importers and online sellers. We also ship fully assembled where a project needs it. Fixings, feet and assembly guidance are included, and packaging can be plain carton, retail-ready or Amazon-FBA-ready.
What is your minimum order for iron and wood benches?
A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container). For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum, and we consolidate iron and wood benches with dining tables, consoles, stools and other categories into a single mixed container.
Can you build iron and wood benches to our own design?
Yes. We work as ODM from our catalogue and as OEM to your drawings — custom lengths, bar profiles, powder-coat colours (RAL matched), wood species and finishes, plus private-label and retail-ready packaging. CNC-cut steel and templated jigs keep every unit in a run identical.
Sample the seat and frame, then ship from one container up.
Approve the wood species, powder-coat and length on a physical sample, then scale from a trial order to repeat container volumes on a 30–45 day lead time — QC-governed and documented for your market. Compare lengths, builds and other materials on the benches hub, or browse the full range across our furniture catalogue.
