Why teak for a bathroom vanity

The one wood you can put in a wet room and stop worrying about.

A bathroom is one of the hardest environments in the home for wood — constant humidity, steam, standing water around the basin, and sharp swings in temperature. Most species cup, swell at the joints or grow mould in that climate. Teak (Tectona grandis) does not. It carries a high level of natural oils and silica inside the grain, which repel water, resist rot and fungal decay and deter insects — the same chemistry that has kept teak on ship decks, in outdoor showers and on spa floors for generations, often with no coating at all. That makes it the benchmark wood for wet rooms, walk-in showers and humid tropical bathrooms where a value wood would fail. Teak is also dimensionally stable, so doors, drawers and a solid countertop stay true through daily humidity cycles, and its warm golden-brown grain reads as genuinely luxurious on a hotel or retail floor. It is a premium timber — and in a bathroom, it is the one that earns the premium.

Build options

Freestanding, floor-standing or wall-hung; drawers on soft-close runners, doors, or open slatted shelves that let a wet-room unit drain and breathe. Solid teak throughout, or a solid-teak countertop on a powder-coated wrought-iron frame for a spa or industrial look.

Tops & finishes

Natural, teak-oiled for a warm matte tone, or sealed matt/satin lacquer in CARB / TSCA Title VI formaldehyde-compliant formulations. Solid teak countertops suit vessel basins; we also fit stone tops over a teak base and cut for drop-in or under-mount basins.

Packing & shipping

Care & durability

Finished to your brief, built for a lifetime in the bathroom.

Teak carcases, tops and frames are kiln-dried to stable moisture levels before joinery, so they hold firm through the daily humidity and temperature swings of a bathroom — and teak's natural oils mean no sealing is required even on a wet countertop. For a sealed unit, wipe clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth and a mild pH-neutral cleaner; avoid soaking, bleach and harsh solvents. A natural or oiled teak vanity can be left to develop a soft silver-grey patina with nothing more than an occasional wash, or re-oiled once or twice a year to hold the warm golden tone — the choice is purely cosmetic, because teak's durability does not depend on a finish. Wrought-iron frames are powder-coated against bathroom humidity, and slatted shelves let water drain and air circulate in wet-room installs. Full care and finish guidance ships with every order so your retail and hospitality customers get consistent advice.

Questions buyers ask

Teak bathroom vanity sourcing, answered.

Is teak the best wood for a bathroom vanity?

Teak is widely regarded as the best wood for wet rooms. Its high natural oil and silica content resists water, swelling, rot and fungal decay from the inside, so a teak vanity copes with steam, splash and constant humidity far better than most woods — the same chemistry that keeps teak on boat decks and in outdoor showers. It is the wood to specify for spa bathrooms, wet rooms and humid climates where other species would cup or grey.

Does a teak vanity need sealing or can it be left natural?

Both work. Teak's durability comes from its own oils, not from a coating, so it can be left natural and simply oiled occasionally to hold a warm golden tone, or finished with a water-resistant lacquer for a sealed look. Unlike most woods, a teak vanity does not depend on its finish to survive the bathroom — the finish is largely cosmetic. We supply whichever your range needs in CARB / TSCA-compliant formulations.

What sizes and basin options do you offer?

We build single teak vanities from roughly 24 to 48 in (60–122 cm) wide and double vanities from 60 to 72 in (152–183 cm), in wall-hung, freestanding and floor-standing formats. Tops are cut for countertop (vessel) basins, drop-in or under-mount basins — a solid teak top suits a vessel basin especially well — with pre-bored tap and waste holes to your plumbing standard.

Why is a teak vanity more expensive than mango or rubberwood?

Teak is a premium tropical timber and the price reflects genuine performance: natural oils and silica give it water resistance and dimensional stability that value woods cannot match in a wet room, plus a warm golden grain that reads as high-end. We advise teak where moisture exposure or prestige justify the spend — spa bathrooms, wet rooms, luxury hotels — and a sealed value wood where they do not.

What is your minimum order for teak bathroom vanities?

A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container). For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum, and we consolidate teak vanities with teak mirrors, bath stools, shower benches, shelving and other categories into a single mixed container.

Can you make teak vanities to our own design and brand?

Yes. We work as ODM (our catalogue designs) and OEM (your drawings, dimensions, basin specification, hardware and private-label or retail-ready packaging), including slatted shelves, solid-teak countertops, wall-hung units and teak tops on powder-coated wrought-iron frames for a spa or industrial look.
