Rosewood armchairs — solid Dalbergia seating, carved for a lifetime of use.
A rosewood armchair is a statement piece: deep, dark figured grain, dense heartwood and the carrying weight of a true hardwood. We manufacture it in Jodhpur from solid Dalbergia — CITES-compliant, Vriksh-verified and FSC chain-of-custody — so buyers get heirloom-grade seating with the paperwork to clear any port.
Dense Dalbergia heartwood, built into show-wood seating.
"Rosewood" is the trade name for timbers of the Dalbergia genus. In India's furniture export belt, a rosewood armchair is most often framed in Dalbergia sissoo — known locally as sheesham and sold worldwide as Indian rosewood — or the denser, darker Dalbergia latifolia (East Indian rosewood). The heartwood runs from golden brown to deep chocolate and purple, streaked with near-black lines, and its natural oils resist wear and insects. On a chair — a piece that is sat in, leaned on and dragged daily — that density is the whole point: slim carved arms, open show-wood frames and fine detail stay crisp where softer woods would dent or loosen.
The properties that matter when a frame carries weight.
Hardness & joint life
Among the hardest furniture hardwoods — around 2,400 lbf (D. latifolia) and 1,660 lbf (sheesham) on the Janka scale. Mortise-and-tenon joints bite and hold, so arms and legs resist the racking a chair takes every day.
Carving & show wood
Rosewood holds fine hand- and CNC-carved detail without chipping, which is why carved backs, fluted legs and sculpted arms read as premium on a retail floor or in a hotel lobby.
Grain that sells
Deep, dark, figured grain photographs beautifully and anchors a room. On an exposed frame it is the chair's main selling feature — no fabric required to make it look expensive.
Longevity & oils
Natural oils aid wear and insect resistance, giving heirloom-grade seating suited to dining carver chairs, club chairs and contract use that must survive years of turnover.
Honest weight
Rosewood is heavy — a quality cue buyers can feel. Where freight or handling matters, we trim weight with lighter companion woods or knockdown / flat-pack builds without losing the look.
Finish depth
It takes oil, wax and matte lacquer like few other woods, the finish sinking into the grain rather than sitting on top — so refinishing after years of use is straightforward.
From a carved occasional chair to an upholstered club chair.
Every chair starts from a solid rosewood heart and is finished to your market. Mix styles, finishes and fabrics freely within one container.
Carved occasional & accent
Saharanpur-style hand-carved and CNC-detailed show-wood chairs — the figured grain and relief work are the piece, ideal for statement corners and boutique bedrooms.
Dining carver & armchairs
Head-of-table carvers and armed dining chairs in solid rosewood, built to match rosewood dining tables and take daily commercial load.
Leather & upholstered club
Full-grain or buffalo-leather and cotton/linen seats and backs on exposed rosewood frames — warmth and comfort with the hardwood on show.
Cane & rattan backs
Hand-woven cane panels set into carved rosewood frames — light, breathable accent seating that plays the dark grain against natural weave.
Rosewood & iron
Rosewood seats and arms on wrought-iron bases for an industrial contract look that is robust for café and bar floors.

Rosewood is controlled. We ship it by the book.
Because Dalbergia is listed on CITES Appendix II, a rosewood armchair only crosses borders cleanly with the right legality trail. We source and ship Dalbergia sissoo (sheesham) on a CITES-compliant basis, verified under Vriksh and held under FSC chain-of-custody, with EUDR-ready geolocation and deforestation-free due diligence built in. We support US Lacey Act declarations and UK Timber Regulation, finish to CARB / TSCA Title VI norms, and heat-treat export packing to ISPM-15 — documented per shipment, verifiable, and shared with serious buyers on request.

Made to carry a decade of daily sitting.
Rosewood frames are kiln-dried and mortise-and-tenon joined to survive ocean freight and changing climates. Keep the chair out of prolonged direct sun to preserve its colour, dust with a dry or barely damp cloth, and re-oil or wax the show wood periodically to refresh the grain; avoid harsh solvents. Leather responds to a periodic conditioner, cane and rattan prefer a light vacuum and stable humidity, and upholstered fabrics should be spot-cleaned per the care label. We provide care and assembly guidance with every order, and fit, finish and joint integrity are QC-checked before any armchair leaves the factory.
Rosewood armchair sourcing, answered.
What wood is a rosewood armchair made from?
The frame is solid Dalbergia heartwood. In India's export trade, rosewood most often means Dalbergia sissoo — known locally as sheesham and sold worldwide as Indian rosewood — and the denser, darker Dalbergia latifolia (East Indian rosewood). Both give a chair deep brown-to-purple figured grain, natural oils and the density that lets carved arms and show-wood frames last for decades.
Are rosewood armchairs strong enough for hotel and restaurant use?
Yes. Rosewood is one of the hardest furniture hardwoods — Indian rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia) rates around 2,400 lbf on the Janka scale and sheesham (Dalbergia sissoo) around 1,660 lbf, both well above oak. That density, combined with mortise-and-tenon joinery, makes rosewood a natural choice for dining carver chairs, club chairs and lobby seating under daily commercial load.
Is a rosewood armchair CITES-controlled, and can you export it legally?
Yes. Dalbergia species are on CITES Appendix II, so rosewood seating must ship with proper legality paperwork. We handle Dalbergia sissoo (sheesham) on a CITES-compliant basis, backed by Vriksh timber-legality verification and FSC chain-of-custody, and we are EUDR-ready with geolocation and deforestation-free due diligence, plus US Lacey Act and UK Timber Regulation support.
Can you make rosewood armchairs to our own design or private label?
Yes. We build as both ODM (our catalogue designs) and OEM — to your drawings, dimensions, carving, finish and fabric — with custom CNC work and retail-ready, Amazon-FBA-ready or gift packaging under your brand.
What is your minimum order for rosewood armchairs?
A trial or sample order can ship LCL (part-container) so you can approve the chair first. For best wholesale pricing thereafter, one 20ft full container load is our standard minimum, and rosewood armchairs can be consolidated with dining tables, benches and décor into a single mixed container. Typical lead time is 30–45 days, quoted FOB or CIF from Mundra or Nhava Sheva.
How do you finish and care for a rosewood armchair?
Rosewood takes oil, wax, matte lacquer and hand-rubbed finishes beautifully, deepening its grain; we use CARB / TSCA Title VI-compliant, low-formaldehyde products. In service, keep the chair out of prolonged direct sun to hold its colour, dust with a dry or barely damp cloth, and re-oil or wax the show wood periodically. Any leather, cane or fabric is maintained to its own care label.
