UK Timber Regulation (UKTR): what it means for your furniture shipment.

If you import solid-wood furniture into Great Britain, UKTR sits between your container and your warehouse. We build the legality evidence into every order — species, origin, FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh verification — so your due-diligence file is complete before the goods leave Jodhpur.

What the regulation actually is

UKTR, in plain terms.

The UK Timber Regulation governs how timber and timber products — including finished wooden furniture — are placed on the Great Britain market. It does two things: it prohibits illegally harvested timber, and it obliges the business that first places the goods on the GB market to operate a due-diligence system. It is the retained GB counterpart to the EU Timber Regulation, and it is why a serious UK importer asks for proof of legality before a container is ever booked.

01

Gather information

Species (botanical and trade names), country of harvest, quantity, and the supplier behind each item — the facts that identify exactly what is in the container.

02

Assess the risk

Judge the likelihood that any timber was illegally harvested, using the origin, species and the evidence provided by the manufacturer.

03

Mitigate the risk

Where risk is not negligible, obtain further documentation or verification — such as FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh records — until it is.

Why buyers care

The obligation is yours. The evidence is ours.

Under UKTR the legal "operator" is the UK company that first places the furniture on the GB market — so the formal due-diligence duty sits with your business, not ours. What slows most importers down is not the law itself; it is chasing a distant factory for species names, origin and legality paperwork after the fact.

We remove that friction. Every order ships with the legality trail already assembled, structured to feed straight into a UKTR due-diligence system. Your goods clear and reach your shelves while under-documented competitors answer questions at the port.

What this means for your shipment

From sheesham log to GB warehouse — documented end to end.

A UKTR-ready container is not a certificate stapled on at the end. It is a traceable chain that we build while the furniture is being made, so the paperwork and the product always match.

Sheesham & CITES, handled properly

Sheesham (Indian rosewood, Dalbergia sissoo) is a CITES-listed species. We handle it on a CITES-compliant basis with the legality documentation UK due diligence expects — and where you prefer to avoid CITES species entirely, we build the same pieces in mango, acacia, teak or reclaimed wood.

One file, ready to submit

Species, origin, quantity, supplier traceability, FSC chain-of-custody, Vriksh verification and ISPM-15 packing records arrive as a coherent set. Certificate numbers are shared directly with serious buyers on request — never published — so your due-diligence file is both complete and verifiable.

Request documentation samples

UKTR applies to the Great Britain market. If you also ship into the EU, the same legality backbone underpins our EUDR readiness — geolocated, deforestation-free and Vriksh-verified — so one compliant source serves both markets.

Compliance is our trust wedge

Why most Jodhpur exporters can't answer this page.

Genuine craft is common in Jodhpur. A documented, verifiable legality trail is not. We hold FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh timber-legality verification, handle sheesham to CITES, and are EUDR-ready for Europe and Lacey-Act-supported for the United States — so a single container can satisfy every market you sell into.

UK Timber Regulation — FAQs

UKTR and your furniture imports, answered.

What is the UK Timber Regulation (UKTR)?

The UK Timber Regulation is the law that governs how timber and timber products — including wooden furniture — are placed on the Great Britain market. It prohibits illegally harvested timber and requires the business placing goods on the market (the operator) to run a due-diligence system: identify the species and country of harvest, assess the risk of illegality, and mitigate that risk with evidence. It is the GB counterpart to the EU Timber Regulation.

Does UKTR apply to imported wooden furniture?

Yes. Finished furniture made from solid wood — and wood components within a product — falls under the regulation when it is first placed on the GB market. That is why UK importers ask their overseas manufacturer for species, origin and legality documentation before a container is booked. We supply that evidence as standard with every order.

Who is responsible for UKTR due diligence — the exporter or the UK importer?

Under UKTR the legal operator is the UK business that first places the furniture on the GB market, so the formal due-diligence obligation sits with your importing company. Our role is to make that obligation easy to discharge: we provide the species, harvest-country, supplier and legality records your due-diligence system needs, backed by FSC chain-of-custody and Vriksh timber-legality verification.

How do you help our UK furniture imports comply with UKTR?

We package the legality trail for you — botanical and common species names, country of harvest, lot and supplier traceability, FSC chain-of-custody where specified, Vriksh (EPCH timber-legality) verification, and CITES-compliant handling of sheesham. Certificate numbers are shared directly with serious buyers on request, so your due-diligence file is complete and verifiable.

Is sheesham (Dalbergia sissoo) legal to import into the UK?

Yes, when it is sourced and documented correctly. Sheesham (Indian rosewood, Dalbergia sissoo) is a CITES-listed species, so we handle it on a CITES-compliant basis with the legality documentation that UK due diligence requires. We also offer mango, acacia, teak and reclaimed wood where you prefer a non-CITES species for simpler clearance.

What documents do you provide for a UKTR due-diligence file?

Per shipment we can provide species identification (botanical and trade names), country of harvest, quantity, supplier traceability, FSC chain-of-custody documentation, Vriksh verification and CITES paperwork for sheesham, alongside ISPM-15 heat-treated packing records. This mirrors the information a UKTR due-diligence system is built to capture.
